NEFF, Paul, Jr. PAUL WILLIAM NEFF JR. LAKE TOXAWAY Paul William Neff Jr., 81, died Monday, May 10, 2010 peacefully at home at Lake Toxaway, NC. He was born February 8, 1929 in Moweaque, IL to the late Paul William and Blanche Sutherland Neff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his previous wife, Jean Moore Neff; and sister, Alice Neff Shearer. Having grown up all over the midwest, he attended high school in Clinton, Iowa where he excelled in sports. He graduated from the University of Minnesota which he attended on a track scholarship, and was a star of the NCAA championship track team. After graduation from Minnesota in 1950, he served as a lieutenant in the Navy for 4 years during the Korean War. His last naval assignment was as an instructor at the Naval Supply School in Athens, GA. He lived in Atlanta, GA where he was employed by Lanier Business Products for 35 years. He retired from Lanier as a senior executive and moved to Lake Toxaway in 1989. While in Atlanta, he was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and the Capital City Club. He was a former member of Biltmore Forest Country Club in Asheville and a current member of Lake Toxaway Country Club. He was an avid golfer, sports enthusiast, dog lover, devoted Georgia Bulldog fan -- but, most importantly, a loving family man. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He had an astounding intellect, keen interest in many things, and a wonderful sense of humor -- yet he was incredibly humble. Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Catherine "Kitty" Coleman Neff (Asheville, NC native); son, Frank Cushman Tindall III and wife Elizabeth of Asheville, NC; daughters, Julie Neff Carew of Charlottesville, VA, Catherine Tindall Kendall and husband John of Charlotte, NC, Julia Tindall Pinkston and husband Billy of Atlanta, GA; grandsons, Brian and Ben Carew, Wilson Tindall, John, Paul, and Will Kendall, and Grant Pinkston; and granddaughters, Virginia Carew, Carter Tindall, and Emily Pinkston. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 16th at First United Methodist Church, 325 N. Broad Street, Brevard, NC with the Rev. Marcus Dobson officiating. There will be a private interment in the memorial garden at Lake Toxaway United Methodist Church.
