Obituary Condolences

SCHAEFER, Peter Joseph Pete Schaefer passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at the age of 77. He was born in Lima, Peru, the son of the late Joseph Michael Schaefer and Jessamine Virginia (Sherbert) Schaefer. He is survived by his beloved wife Carol Byrne Schaefer; brother, Michael Cameron Schaefer; stepson Christopher Keaton, and many friends and extended family members. He graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He was proud of his service in the U.S. Air Force and supported military causes throughout his life. He was also proud of his Scottish heritage, supporting and working at the Stone Mountain Highland Games for many years. He served as President of Clan Cameron of Stone Mountain. After retirement he volunteered his time as a member of the Piedmont Henry Hospital Auxiliary. He attended St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Jonesboro where he gave joyfully of his time, talents and treasure. He was a very kind, gentle, and loving soul and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. "Well done, MY good and faithful servant." It was Pete's desire to have no funeral mass; he will be buried quietly at Honey Creek Woodlands at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers, at a day and time to be determined. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made to the Kidney Foundation or St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church Endowment Fund in Pete's memory.
