She excelled in the cooking of Southern cuisine, and after retirement read avidly. An animal lover, she cared for a number of rescue dogs throughout her life.

She was organized, efficient and productive whether in her professional life, her home life or her volunteer work. She retired from Marshalls as a Human Resources Manager. Phyllis was a long-time member of Dunwoody United Methodist Church and was actively involved in the Church's ministries. She and Charlie were members of the Capital City Club in Atlanta.
