Reid Mullins, age 81 of Dacula, GA, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin "Bennie" Mullins & Rita Mullins; and siblings, Charles "Red" Piland and Marie Veazey. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Deloris N. Mullins; children, Dr. Emmett R. Mullins, Jr. (Mary) and Penelope "Penny" M. Clavijo (John); grandchildren, Meredith R. Mullins, Michael R. Mullins, Parker B. Clavijo, G. Perrin Clavijo; and brother & sister-in-law, Mike Mullins (Linda). Reid was a graduate of Union Point High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Piedmont College, where he met the love of his life Deloris. He obtained his Masters and Specialists degrees in Educational Leadership from the University of Georgia. Reid began his teaching career at Social Circle High School. He transitioned to Jackson County, where he served as a coach and principal at Jackson County High School. Reid joined Gwinnett County Public Schools, where he worked at Dacula High School, prior to being assigned the principalship at Snellville Middle School. Reid retired in 1989, after serving 20 years as principal of Snellville Middle School, having served as the first middle school principal in Gwinnett County Public Schools. He served as president and life member of GAEL, GAMSP, GREA, and GCREA. Reid was an active member of Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church. The funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Reid Mullins will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 10:00 AM at First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville with Rev. Dr. Royeese Stowe officiating. Interment will follow at 4:00 PM at Greenlawn Cemetery, Union Point, GA. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM- 7:00 PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation- Reid Mullins Scholarship https://gcps-foundation.org/donation/des/reid-mullins-scholarship-south-gwinnett-high-school.
