Richard Earl Johnson Obituary
Richard Earl Johnson, age 90, passed away on October 5, 2017 in Marietta, Georgia. He was born on December 24, 1926 in Springfield, MO. He had a great love and admiration for his deceased parents, Billy Bothwell Johnson and Nettie Gorsuch Johnson and a brother the late Robert Johnson.

Richard grew up on a small farm in Missouri. After his graduation from Springfield High School in 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Air Corp V5 program. While a cadet, he studied at Westminster College, Western Michigan University and Northwestern. The war ended before he completed his studies. He was extremely proud of his service during WWII. After his Honorable Discharge in June 1946 he continued his studies at Drury University and received a BA in Economics in June 1947. He then started his career with The Equitable Life Insurance Co. where he spent the next 40 years until his retirement in 1987. While with Equitable he advanced to the position of Vice President of Claims. He was transferred 13 times, the last transfer brought him to Atlanta, Ga.

In 1951 he married Mary Lou Pulliam from Brinkley, Arkansas and a few years later they celebrated the birth of a daughter Jeanne. Mary Lou died in 1991.

Richard enjoyed his life - for years he made annual fishing trips with good friends, and took his two grandsons along when they were older. He was an excellent bridge player and was active in his church. He was head usher for years and always helped in the kitchen when they had weekly dinners. He was a good friend to many - his smile was contagious.

February 28, 2004 he married Jane Nicholson and they had 13 years of traveling the world together, enjoying their golden years and sharing their lives. Jane will miss his first words every morning when he woke up he'd say "morning love".

Richard is survived by his wife Jane, his daughter Jeanne (Paul) Jensen and two grandsons Derek and Neal Jensen. He has three step-sons - Thomas (Virginia) Hughes, Jeffrey (Sherri) Hughes, and James Hughes; four step-grandchildren, T.R.Hughes, Jr., Brian, Andrew and Kaitlyn Hughes. He'll be missed by all.

The family will greet friends at 10:00 am for visitation at North Springs United Methodist Church. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 am. A reception will follow the service. Burial will be at Crittenden Memorial Park, West Memphis, Arkansas October 16, 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard's name to the North Springs United Methodist Church, Sandy Springs, Georgia, 30350.
