GROSS, Dr. Richard Saul Dr. Richard Saul Gross of Atlanta, GA, beloved husband and soul mate of Fay Ashman Gross for 57 years, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017. He is survived by Fay, his three sons Bradley, Philip, and Gregory Gross; his two daughters-in-law Lorie Gross and Laura Gross; and his 4 grandchildren Gina Gross, Haley Gross, Morgan Prewitt and Michael Prewitt. Richard was born, the youngest of three children, on January 21, 1937 in Johnstown, PA. He was the proud son of Anne Duris, who raised him to be a strong willed, compassionate, and generous man. After high school, Richard attended Penn State University where he became the first in his family to earn a college degree. From Penn State University, he entered the Marine Corps as an Officer 1st Lieutenant. In the years following his service, he earned his Master's degree at East Carolina University and his PhD in Psychology from the University of South Carolina. Richard dedicated his life to helping others thrive through his practice, providing therapy and counseling to those in need. He was always quick to volunteer his service and expertise, and was particularly proud of his work with those displaced by hurricane Katrina and others suffering from traumatic life events. Among various accolades, He was awarded the Deputy Commissioners Citation from the Social Security Administration in 2006 for providing outstanding service and stewardship. Richard was a proud marine. During his time in the Marine Corp, he was deployed to Guantanamo Bay as part of the Cuban Missile Crisis with the 2nd Battalion and 8th Marine Regiment. After 3 years of service, he was honorably discharged from the Marines as an Officer, 1st Lieutenant. During his time at Penn State he excelled in track and field, and qualified for the Olympic Pole Vaulting team. A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday September 17th at 2:00pm at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 3150 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084.
