KROPFL, Richard Alvin Richard Alvin Kropfl, a longtime resident of Roswell, Georgia, died Monday, November 20th, 2017 at the age of 75. He passed away after a brief illness. Richard was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and spent most of his early years in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Galena Park High School in 1960, attended the University of Houston before joining the Army where he served in the Army Security Agency. After his military service, Richard returned to Houston where he was employed at Armco Steel for 20 years. There he met Sherra Morris and on March 6th of 1965, they were married. Eight years later, their son Kelly C. Kropfl was born. Richard had many interests. As a young man, he had aspirations of being a professional tennis player. His love of flying led him to obtain his commercial pilot's license and he became a flight instructor. He enjoyed deep-sea fishing with his dad and also enjoyed salmon fishing in Alaska. In 1991, Richard and Sherra relocated to Atlanta for new employment opportunities with Puritan Churchill Chemical Company and The House of Cheatham, the company from which he later retired. Atlanta provided opportunities to nurture his love for the outdoors, travel and exploration. While living in Stone Mountain, Georgia, he spent a great amount of time at Stone Mountain Park. Living near Atlanta allowed Richard and Sherra easy access to the world. They enjoyed various vacations including a river boat cruise down the Amazon, skiing the Alps in St. Moritz, Switzerland, Viking River Cruises in Europe, and many others. After retirement, Richard continued his love of adventure and the outdoors while whitewater rafting in the Grand Canyon and other class 5 rapids, dogsledding in Alaska, Maine, Minnesota, and Canada. He even walked with the polar bears in Churchill, Manitoba. He is survived by Sherra Kropfl, his wife of 52 years, and other extended family. Richard was preceded in death by Delores & Alvin Kropfl (mother and father), Leesa Cox (sister), and Kelly C. Kropfl (son). Richard made an impression on everyone he came in contact with.
