Robert CHILDS Obituary
CHILDS, III, Robert Marion "Bob" March 7, 1945 May 30, 2018 Robert "Bob" Marion Childs III, born March 7, 1945, son of Robert Jr. and Freda Beshirs Childs, passed away on May 30, 2018, after a 6-year courageous battle with prostate cancer. Bob was born March 7, 1945 in Camden, AR. At the age of four and upon the death of his mother, Bob's father moved the family to Brinkley, AR and married Lillian Reaves. Bob graduated from high school there and from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. In 1966 he married Marilyn Kay Woodard. They had three children, Carrie Gould of Houston TX, Robert Childs of Brooklyn, NY and Kristin Rios of Portland, OR (Jose). Many early years were spent at Fairfield Bay on Greers Ferry Lake in AR where he loved fishing and water skiing with his children. When business moved the family to Arizona, snow skiing and fly fishing became his favorite hobbies. Many family vacations were spent there and in Pagosa Springs, CO on the slopes and in the streams. He spent hours upon hours casting his fly rod and bringing home his catch. Bob enjoyed a long and successful career in real estate, resort development and home inspection services. He was President of the Green Valley, AZ Chamber of Commerce for two terms and an outspoken advocate for the surrounding community. Bob shared his final years with his companion, Frances Satterfield St. John in Atlanta, GA. Together they enjoyed traveling, entertaining, the arts and many sporting activities. He gained strength from the support of his many friends at Central Presbyterian Church where they were members. Bob was predeceased by his parents and a sister Dixie Childs Hartje. In addition to those included above, Bob is survived by his mother Lillian Childs (103) of Brinkley, AR, three children named above and five grandchildren, Eli, Lilli, Jeb Gould and Milo and Jake Rios, and four nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at Central Presbyterian Church on July 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church at 201 Washington St. SW, Atlanta, GA 30303.
