Robert Jackson Pittman Obituary
Robert Jackson Pittman passed away on July 30, 2018. He was 97. There were many milestones in his life but the most important were meeting and marrying Mary Elizabeth Shore, the birth of his daughter Andrea, and his son, Robert. He outlived them all which greatly saddened him but his smile continued on. He is survived by his brother, Aurthur Pittman; grandchildren, Amy Adams and Gregory Giuliano; and five grandchildren. His accomplishments are many. Bob left the poverty of his youth in Woodbury, Georgia to attend North Georgia Military Academy. After his graduation, he joined the US Coast Guard during World War II where he served as a seaman on an ammunition cargo ship. Upon his release from the military, he returned to Woodbury with Mary and started a successful flower shop and restaurant. He left Middle Georgia and came to Atlanta where he began a long career at Lockheed. Because of his hard work and innate abilities, he rose from an entry-level position to a department head. He was also one of the primary speech writers for the President of Lockheed in Georgia. Bob's last years were spent at Sunrise Assisted Living in East Cobb and there he made one of his best contributions to life. He gave smiles and hope to all that lived there. Bob knew every person by name and each day, he greeted them with a good word and a smile. He was known as "The Mayor" of Sunrise. He will be truly missed by many. On his last night, as he was being helped to bed, he said, "Thank you" to his aide and smiled, then went to sleep. God Speed Robert Pittman! Pittman, Robert Jackson
