Robert Stanley GOLD M.D. Obituary
GOLD, MD, Robert Stanley Robert Stanley Gold, MD of Atlanta, GA passed away on May 11, 2016 at the age of 74. Dr. Gold was born on April 14, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA. He is survived by his wife Valerie and his children Michael, Jonathan and Samantha. Also surviving are his grandchildren Aidan, Audrey and Peter and his sister Carolyn De Jonge. Robert (a.k.a. Rob, Bob, Rob/Bob or Ron) was married for 43 years to the late Judith Kosmahl Gold. Dr. Gold was certainly a gentleman and a scholar. He received his Medical Doctorate from Hahnemann Medical College in 1966. He practiced general surgery in the U.S. Navy for 21 years. After leaving the service, he worked as a consultant in the fields of managed care medicine, locum tenens, home health, hospital accreditation and licensure. He later co-founded DCBA, Inc., a consulting firm which provided education to hospital medical staff throughout the United States on the topic of Clinical Documentation Improvement. His clinical acumen, knowledge of medical coding and billing, and easy, engaging manner allowed him to bridge the gap between healthcare delivery and the business of medicine. And he did it with his own unique, caring, personal, and inimitable style. He had an innate, intuitive sense as to the essence of people's medical, intellectual and emotional needs. This combined with his intellect, extraordinary intelligence and experience made him a truly brilliant man. He had a passion for teaching, whether it be educating someone about a disease process, how to play banjo or teaching them the proper bowling technique. Dr Gold's unabashed sense of humor was pervasive in all of aspects of his life. He derived great joy out of making others smile. Robert never did anything half-hearted. He became an expert at anything he took an interest in, and his interests were many; he was a gourmet chef, a musician, a builder, a landscape architect, an avid baseball card collector and a diehard Atlanta Braves fan. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at H.M. Patterson & Son-Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Rd, NE, Brookhaven, GA 30319 on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Winship Cancer Foundation at Emory or planting trees in Israel in his memory are fitting honors.
