Sara Gosa Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

GOSA, Sara SARA MORRIS GOSA Sara Morris Gosa, 86, died peacefully early on Sunday morning, January 25, 2009 of complications from a series of falls. She lived a long, faithful life, and was ready to join her husband of 65 years, Rex Gosa, who went on ahead in 1993 to make a place for her. Sara Lena Morris Gosa was born October 23, 1922 in Baker County, Georgia, second child of Daisy Slocumb Morris and Clyde E. Morris. She was valedictorian of Morven High School's class of 1939, and was awarded a full scholarship to Tift College which she was prevented from using by the early death of her mother the month she was to leave for college. She worked during World War II in the quartermaster's office at Warner Robbins Air Force base and married the love of her life, Rex Gosa, in May, 1944 at the age of 21. They moved from Smithville, Georgia, to Toccoa, GA where they lived and thrived for 20 years. They moved to Dalton, GA in 1964 with their two children when Rex was transferred by the General Telephone Company to head up the company's district in Northwest Georgia. Following his retirement in the early 1970's they moved to Lafayette, GA where they lived until they moved to Snellville, GA in the mid-1980's. Sara never gave up her dream of a college education and earned her Bachelor's Degree by Independent Study from the University of South Florida in her 50's. She was a church secretary and bookkeeper, an extraordinary ordinary person, always curious and involved in the life of her community, her church and her world. She loved her family and her friends and was unfailingly kind, gentle and nonjudgmental throughout her life. A Presbyterian for more than 60 years, she is survived by her daughter, the Rev. Dr. Cheryl A. Gosa of Atlanta; her son, Morris Rex Gosa, of Lilburn; her grandchildren Aaron, Elizabeth and Matthew Gosa all of Atlanta; her sister, Betty M. Parker of Snellville; her brother Dale E. Morris of Augusta; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday the 27th from 6-8pm at A. S. Turner in Decatur and the graveside service will be Wednesday the 28th at 11am at Stephens Memorial Gardens in Toccoa, GA. "Oh blest communion, fellowship divine! We feebly struggle, they in glory shine; Yet all are one in Thee, for all are Thine, Alleluia, alleluia!"

Dear Cheryl and Morris, I am very sorry to read about the passing of your mother. My thoughts are with you. I loved the phrase "extraordinary ordinary person" about your mom. That is high praise for any individual. Morris, I have fond memories of when you and Mac Lumpkin were the scout leaders of Troop 2. May God bless you and Cheryl both in this time of loss and grief. Best Regards, Jim Shaheen

I remember Sara Gosa as a very kind lady that always that a warm and pretty smile. When my dad and I were trying to find a house that would be "right" for me, he found out that Sara had her house up for sale. The minute that I looked at it, I just knew it was perfect.
I'm sorry for your loss, but it is definitely Heaven's Gain!!
Blessings,

Cheryl, I'm not sure you will even remember me, but we were classmates at DHS. As we have been preparing for our 40th yr reunion, many names of former classmates have been mentioned and yours was one of them. I am so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. No matter how old we are, we are never ready to give up our parents. You and your family will be in my thoughts & prayers.

We are sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Gosa and that her husband has also gone. We did not personally know either of them, but Mr. Gosa, in his work for General Telephone helped us get a private line during the time we were expecting our first child. The name, Mr. Gosa, has been remembered with thanksgiving in our family.
