Sarah WATERS Obituary
WATERS, Sarah Ann Sarah Ann Bankston Waters, formerly of Atlanta, passed away peacefully Monday, December 18, 2017 at Wesley Woods of Newnan. Sarah Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Dr. William C. Waters, III, her father, James Bankston, her mother, Sarah Bess Clement Bankston, and her brother, Captain James Walker Bankston. After Dr. Waters' distinguished career at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, they moved to Newnan, GA. Born in Atlanta on April 27, 1928, as a fifth generation Atlantan, Sarah Ann grew up in Ansley Park near her family's former homestead, which is now Piedmont Park. Sarah Ann's strong connection to Atlanta was evidenced by her stories of old Atlanta, including her memories of the close personal relationship of her mother and grandmother to Margaret Mitchell. Sarah Ann was a graduate of Washington Seminary (Westminster) and attended the University of Georgia where she was a member of Phi Mu Fraternity. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Atlanta Debutante Club of 1946. Sarah Ann served her community through the years with a number of fundraisers. She was a co-chairman of the Atlanta Heart Ball and was an honorary chairman of the Piedmont Ball. She was currently a member of the Atlanta Country Club and Piedmont Driving Club. A devoted wife and mother, she is survived by her son, Dr. William C. Waters, IV & his wife Teresa of Carrollton and daughter, Sally Waters McEntire and her husband Dennis of Newnan. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Elizabeth McEntire Williams and William Clay McEntire and four great-grandchildren, all of Newnan. A lifelong Methodist, Sarah Ann was most recently a member of Newnan First United Methodist Church. Condolences can be expressed online at The graveside service is Friday, December 22, 2017 at 2 o'clock at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan with Dr. Harry Barrow officiating. The family will receive friends Friday between 12:30-1:30 PM at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St, Newnan, GA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either Newnan First United Methodist Church for the Advent Bag Fund, 33 Greenville St, Newnan, GA 30263 or to Piedmont Hospital for the Waters Pavilion, 1968 Peachtree Rd., NW, Atlanta, GA 30309.
