Family-Placed Death Notice
ROBERSON, Scott SCOTT MICHAEL ROBERSON Scott Michael Roberson, born July 3, 1970, died under hostile fire on December 30, 2009 while serving his country as a CIA Security Officer in Khost, Afghanistan. He is survived by his wife, Molly (née Kaiser) of Knoxville, TN and their soon-to-arrive daughter Piper; parents, Harry and Sally Roberson of Stow, OH; parents-in-law Anthony and Nannette Kaiser of Knoxville, TN; sister Amy (Jeff) Messner of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; brothers-in-law Anthony (Jenna) Kaiser of Cincinnati, OH and Will (Cathy) Kaiser of Breckenridge, CO; sister-in-law Ashleigh Kaiser of Breckenridge, CO; uncles Michael (Carole) Kovach of Stow, OH, Jim (Zelda) Kovach of Canton, OH, Tom (Sue) Roberson of Clinton, OH, Rod (Brenda) Roberson of Clinton, OH, and aunt Valerie (Ronnie) Thomas of Akron, OH; special cousins Karen Young, Keith Kovach and Adam Kovach; and hundreds of family and friends who are so proud to have known him. He will be escorted by dear friend Kelley Castell, CDR USN, and welcomed home by loved ones including lifelong friends David Bachiochi of Tolland, CT; Greg Johnson of Tolland, CT; and Scott Castell of Houston, TX. Born in Manchester, OH and raised in Tolland, CT, Scott returned to Ohio to complete high school at Sycamore in Cincinnati, starting a trend of globetrotting that would continue throughout his life and result in friendships that spanned the world. Though distance often separated him from loved ones, he was the glue that held lifetime friendships together. Scott's dedication to his country and his fellow man were unparalleled. After graduating from Florida State University with a degree in Criminology, he began his career as an officer with the Atlanta Police Department and rose to the rank of detective while working undercover in the Narcotics division. His international service started with UN security forces in Kosovo and continued with several tours of duty in Iraq, where his duties included providing protection to high-risk officials. His most recent assignments were in support of US efforts in Afghanistan. He was a patriot and a hero but more importantly, he was a friend to all who knew him. With his sly sense of humor, quick grin, and extensive knowledge of B-movie quotes and Benny Hill episodes, he charmed everyone he met. He was proud of being a cofounder of the Metro Atlanta Police Emerald Society and loved riding motorcycles with the Iron Pigs. His greatest joy in life was his wife Molly and he looked forward with so much happiness to the birth of their first child in February. He was proud to serve his country and faced the risks head-on, often reminding us that he had "no regrets" about a life lived to the fullest. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010 in Akron, OH with details to follow. All who wish to honor his memory are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Scott's honor to the Metropolitan Atlanta Police Emerald Society (MAPES), PO Box 79053, Atlanta, GA 30357, Attn: Scott Roberson Scholarship Fund. Please visit his memorial website at http://memorialwebsites.legacy.com/scottmroberson. We loved him with all of our hearts and his passing is a tremendous loss for the world he tried so hard to make better. We take comfort in knowing he's in the hands of a loving God and look forward to the day when we see him again.

Molly and Piper, we are really thinking about you during this season. One of the proudest days of my life is when Scotty placed those colors on me and made a statement that will ever live in my memory. Scotty (Piper's Dad) was a great and humble man that cared more for others than himself. He took care of my wife as though she were his sister and I will "NEVER FORGET" the friend that he was to me. My only regrets are that we did not get more time together to talk, the times we did were funny, solemn and poignent. He had great love for Molly, was ecstatic about Piper and had a zest for life that was unmatched. All will be remembered, the Tats, the long braided goatee, the bikes and the man he was. Molly, Piper - thanks for allowing us to get to know him, your loss cannot be matched but there will always be a hole in my heart, where he was my friend. Piper, your Dad was a GREAT Man. God bless you both.

Earlier tonight I just happened to be walking around a park in my home town when I saw a memorial stone to Scott overlooking a beautiful still pond. Since it is Memorial Day and I did not know of him I searched on my phone’s internet right there and found this web link. I hope it is not inappropriate for me to post my feelings on here but I am moved by the accomplishments and sacrifice he made in his life. I am saddened for the loss, you, the family and friends of Scott must bear. God bless you all. God bless America.

Scott,
It has been about a year and 5 months since you left this world. It is Memorial Day tomorrow. I don't need a special day to think of you, I have memories resurfacing daily. Sometimes sparked by a song, a movie, a stupid saying, or just random thoughts. The pain has been tempered by time. The memories have become more vidid, I guess because of the realization that no new ones will be created. You will always be with me in spirit.
I miss you buddy!

Dear Mrs. Roberson,
Your entry is poignant and so full of love. It touched me personally as on May 1st, the day of your entry I witnessed the incredibly beatiful wedding of my son and his new bride. Two mothers - one heart so full of joy, the other so full of regret and heartache. As mothers we all share these emotions throughout our lives. And as joyous a day as May 1st was for me, your loss was on my mind as well. My heart ached for you, my friend in motherhood. Not a one of us is promised tomorrow yet we all live as if we are. How can we learn this lesson before it is too late? I am deeply sorry for the loss of your son, Scott and look forward to meeting you in Tolland on June 5th for the Scott Roberson Memorial and Reception.
With sympathy and respect,
Connie Merritt (SaraBeth Nivison's mom)

Dear Scott, I start thinking of your birth 39 years ago....all the joys and worries of being a new mother...your beautiful smile started way back then and continued on all through your life. I remember the first days of nursery school, kindergarten and every other year and your friendships that you made wherever we made our home. Soccer, ice hockey, basketball, baseball...and traveling to every little town in Connecticut to see your games. Little Amy never missed any of your activities when she was growing up. We are so lucky to have had our times together -- how many hours did we spend on the Georgia front porch, drinking coffee; talking about the world, life, love or just nothing at all. I got a ride on your new motorcycle down to the lake. The 4th of July picnics with your friends and family were so memorable to us -- your friends are the best and I know they will help us tell Piper what a wonderful friend you were and your family will share their stories of her Daddy, too.
I know you told me "no regrets, I'm doing something good for my country." But mothers do have regrets and wonder why. I know you will be the best Guardian Angel for Molly and Piper and we will always be here for them. We will meet again....I love you my son.

In his own words...
"things are great with me and the family..i took the staff job and we are living in (deleted)...we are expecting a little girl in february, so we are super excited about that..i head out for a trip in a few weeks and will be back by the end of january in time for the birth..i will send pictures when she gets here.."
My sympathy and prayers go out to his family. My heart is broken, not only because Southside's presence will be missed, but because Piper did not get to know the man who is her father.

Scott, from the first time I held you, my sister's first child, to Thanksgiving 2009, I thought you were special. From sharing a ride on "Rosebud" with you in a silly white and blue hat to being a part of your wedding day, I was proud to be your uncle. I remember our ski trips to Vermont. It gave me great pleasure to have you along. I followed your accomplishments and progress from Manchester to Connecticut to Cincinnati to Atlanta and beyond. The people you have touched, family, friends, and strangers are better people now just to have known you. Thanks for being you!

We miss our dear Nephew Scotty. He was a bright spot in the family. His dedication to family, friends, associates, vocation and country was admired as well as appreciated by so many. He was proud of his achievements and wore his badge of Secial Agent with honor and humility. Scott died doing what he believed to be his duty as an American Patriot. His wife Molly and new daughter Piper should find some comfort in knowing that his special Star joins others who gave their lives protecting us and our country. Rest well "Southside".

Scott is smart, funny, committed, loving, dedicated, handsome, BRAVE, a true friend and a Mother-in-laws dream. Our family will miss him always but we realize how blessed we were to have him in our family. The love Scott and Molly share will live on in Piper. Scott spent his life protecting others. Now he is in heaven holding his precious daughter and telling her the things he wants her to know. When it is time Scott will bring Piper to Molly and protect them forever.

Harry, Sally, Amy, Molly and Piper,
Scott will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Every time I think of Scott or read an article about him I cry. It is so very heartbreaking, but it gives me some peace knowing he loved his job and was proud to work for the CIA defending his country. I hadn't seen him in years, but my brother Dave kept in touch with him and will miss him very much. Scott is a true Hero.
May God bless you and look after you during this very difficult time.

We don't quite know what to say, because words can never express the heartache we all feel. We are blessed to be your family. With our heart, mind & soul - all of you are in our deepest prayers.
Here is your late Grandpa's favorite prayer to our "Blessed Virgin Mary". I pray for her mantle of protection over you & Piper. Draw strength from her love, her courage as a Mother & her devotion to you as a Mother. God Bless you Molly! We love you!!
The "Memorare"
Remember , O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, and sought thine intercession, was left unaided. Inspired with this confdence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate! despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear & answer me. Amen

It has taken me some time to express how my heart is breaking for all of you. Scott was a very special person.I knew that the firsT time I met him when he came to stay with us when he frist got out of college.I knew then that he was destined for great things.Although I had not seen him for awhile I kept up with him through Kel,Charolette, and Dan. I remember the fun times Scott, Kel and Greg had with us in New Orleans. Muddy shoes in my bathroom after a concert in City Park, getting lost in the French Quarter during Mardi Gras, sleeping on the floor in my den and eating Taco Bell for breakfast. These are great memories and he held a special place in my heart. Over the years I have kept up with his every move and was thrilled when he met and married Molly. I was looking forward to someday meeting both Molly and Piper. It is comforting to know that Piper will know what true hero her Dad is.
Just know that my heartfelt prayers are with you today and the difficult days ahead.
And thank you Scotty for being "OUR GREAT AMERICAN HERO, OUR GENTLE GIANT"

Dear Mr. Scott Michael Roberson,
Although, I never had a chance to meet you Scott, I take stock in knowing that we Americans live in a safer place because of you and others like you. I just wanted to say Thank You.
To the family and friends of Scott Roberson-
I'm deeply moved by this one mans' dedication to country. May Piper one day fully understand why her dad watches’ her only from Heaven. Dear Lord, help Piper, Molly and their families make it through the tough times ahead. Amen
Piper, your dad was a special man. His inner strength is IN you, whether you believe it or not. Your father provided safety and security to countless people in this world so we all may live free without fear.
I close with a couple quotes:
"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and success of liberty."
"And, when he shall die, Take him and cut him out in little stars, And he will make the face of Heaven so fine That all the world will be in love with night And pay no worship to the garish sun."
January 9th, 2010 at 11am. My heartfelt condolences to all.

I knew Scott well. We served together in Zone-1 APD and helped break him in when he was a rookie. Scott also worked with me on several extra jobs I managed. Scott was just as loyal, committed, and professional in the early days that he was till the very end. Scott's warm and sincere personality was what amplified his other character and leadership traits. His work ethic set him apart from others too. Leaving Atlanta and re-entering the Marine Corps, I lost touch with Scott and many other fine officers in Atlanta. I regret that. Having served in Iraq and dealing with DSS and others I am confident that Scott gained a reputation for courage and competence that led him to start protecting CIA leaders in places like Khost. Scott’s duty was to protect people and that is exactly what he did! No doubt on other missions he did many dangerous things too. Humble and Honorable men will never tell, but we all know! God Bless Scott and the Roberson Family. Semper Fidelis, Chief Warrant Officer 3 William Hanrahan, USMC

Dear Family,
My Dad (Robert Greene) and Scott's Dad were cousins. Although I did not know Scott, I wish I had. I do remember one time we were all at Great Grandma and Grandpa Roberson's farm. He sounds remarkable... I have read many articles in many different papers about Scott and they all express what a great man he was. You all and his future daughter have much to be proud of. With sincere sympathy, Lisa Greene- Rogers

I had known of Scott/Southside for years, but it was only until recently that I had the pleasure of meeting him. I knew of his vast background yet he was still willing to learn at any chance that he was given. He had a remarkable personality, and it positively affected everyone around him. Thrash, Flounder, and myself (Morgan) had just gone out to lunch together to share some laughs before he made his way to Afghanistan. It still has not sunk in. My condolences. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers. To his family, thank you for sharing him with us. He will always be a quiet professional and a true American hero. God bless!
