Steven ROTH Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

ROTH, Steven STEVEN MARK ROTH, M.D. Dr. Steven Mark Roth of Augusta, Georgia passed way Wednesday, February 20, 2013. He was born April 23, 1964, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the younger of two children born to Harry Roth and Marilyn Roth Cook. A dedicated and caring physician, Dr. Roth received his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from Virginia Tech and his Doctor of Medicine in 1992 from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia where he also completed a five-year residency in general surgery. At the conclusion of his residency, he was appointed to a post-graduate vascular surgery fellowship at the University of South Florida in Tampa. It was during this fellowship that he developed a highly specialized technique to perform minimally invasive vein procedures. Moving to Augusta, Dr. Roth affiliated with University Hospital and in 2004, began focusing on the treatment of vein disease creating his own vein care facility that is now the Vein Guys© with offices in Augusta, Atlanta, Raleigh, North Carolina, and Nashville, Tennessee. He was published in the endovenous radio frequency ablation (EVRFA) technique and taught physicians from around the United States and the world in the treatment of venous reflux disease and all types of unwanted veins. For 18 years, Dr. Roth served his country in the United States Army Reserve, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a veteran of the Iraqi war where, as a surgeon, he attended our nation's wounded warriors. The great loves of his life were his wife, Mary Anne Gillikin Roth to whom he was married for 15 years and his two children, Hunter David Roth and Haylie Michele Roth. Steven is also survived by his mother, Marilyn (Mickie) Cook and step-father, Richard Cook of Orlando, Florida; his father, Harry Roth and step-mother Rita Roth of Bensalem, Pennsylvania; his sister, Robin Roth and her husband Jim Howard of San Diego, California; his step brother David Jacobs; and his step sisters Rachel Pascale and Katherine Kissinger. Family, friends, and colleagues remember Dr. Roth's amazing commitment to excellence in medicine and compassionate care for his patients. He understood himself to be a vessel through which God's work of healing came to the lives of those he treated. His passion for life, his love for his wife and children, his inspiring professional leadership, and devotion to his patients are but a few of many gifts he gave to all of us. A funeral mass celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Grovetown, Georgia with Father Michael Roverse officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Cemetery in Augusta. A vigil will be held this evening at 6:00 p.m. followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas Poteet Funeral Home, 214 Davis Road, Augusta, Georgia.
