Tony GREENE Obituary
GREENE, Tony Tony Greene died peacefully on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at his home in Atlanta, surrounded by his loving family. Tony was born to Minta and Van Greene on April 7, 1938. He attended Decatur High School and graduated from the University of Georgia. Following Naval Officer Candidate School, Tony served on the Franklin Delano Roosevelt aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean. His shore leaves fostered his love of art, which became a lifelong passion. He began his career in financial planning with Financial Services Corporation and later became the founder, President and CEO of Investment Management and Research/Raymond James Financial Services. He also served as the Chairman, President and Director of the International Association for Financial Planning. He was considered a pioneer in the field of financial planning and was deemed the industry's leading statesman for the independent financial advisor. He is credited by his peers with growing Raymond James Financial Services into the top 10 US retail brokerage firms. Tony served on the boards of both the High Museum of Art in Atlanta and the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, Wyoming, where he had a home and a collection of wildlife art. As many professional successes as Tony was known for, his main success was that of being a father and grandfather. Nicknamed "Gizzy" by his adoring grandchildren, he led them on tracks to see wildlife, to fish, and to share his great passion for the natural world. He took great joy in taking friends and family to Yellowstone and the Teton area to see animals, and was unfailingly generous with his time. In addition to his love of wildlife, Tony enjoyed travel, UGA football, art, wine and opera. He was greatly loved by his many friends and extended family. Tony is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joy Stone Greene, and their children, Angie Greene Craig (Johnny), and Trent Greene (Erika), as well as two grandchildren, Madelyn and Jackson Greene. sisters, Chris Cook (Ron) and Gerry Fosnot. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as sister, Genie Hearn. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 8th at 2:00 PM at Dunwoody Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Wounded Warrior Project.
