Virginia Leila (Lewis) Whittemore Obituary
Virginia Lewis Whittemore of Decatur, GA died peacefully in her home November 7, 2017. Mrs. Whittemore was born December 19, 1922 in Gordon County, GA. She was the daughter of Taylor T. Lewis and Bertha Kiker Lewis. She spent her childhood years in Calhoun, GA. After graduating from West Georgia College, she worked as a teacher in Whitfield and Gordon Counties. She also worked as an employee of the U.S. Army Signal Crops in Fort Monmouth, NJ as well as at the U.S. Public Health Service at the CDC in Atlanta, GA. She was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church for over 61 years . She was an active member of the United Methodist Women group and the Mariners and Faith Sunday school classes. Mrs. Whittemore was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Glenn Miles Whittemore, and by her infant son, Lewis Miles Whittemore.

She is survived by her son James T. (Julie) of Lilburn; daughter Lynne W. Sanders (Stuart) of Clarkesville, GA; son David G.(Lisa) of Dallas, TX; eleven grandchildren, Lauren Patterson, Stacey Mischiara, Matthew Whittemore; Carson Sanders, Amanda Ma , and Jordan Sanders; Madison Abboud, Sterling, Schuyler, Nicolai, and Luca Whittemore; six great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. John C. Johnston (Tommye). A memorial service will be held at Oak Grove United Methodist Church on Saturday November 11, 2017 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends following the service in the church great hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oak Grove United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1722 Oak Grove Road, Decatur, GA 30033.
