1927 - 2017 Obituary Condolences
BORCHERT, William H. William H. Borchert, Captain USN (Retired), of Brookhaven, GA passed away on Dec.12, 2017, happy with his life and with faith in the next. Born Jan. 13, 1927 in Gaylord, MN, the son of Margaret Scalley Borchert and Benjamin F. Borchert. He grew up happy with his two sisters Rosalind and Rosemary. He attended Gaylord High School where he played multiple sports and graduated second in his class of 1944. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, Class of 1948. He married the love of his life, Lois Anne Booth of Parkside, PA in Dec. of 1948. They remained married for 66 years until her passing in June of 2015. Survivors include their four children; Beth (Ron) Radcliffe, WH Borchert, Jr., Thomas C. Borchert, and Amy (Charlie) Williams, along with grandchildren Nick Radcliffe, Laura Radcliffe, W. Henry Borchert III, Jack Borchert and James Borchert, also a loving great granddaughter Cassandra Radcliffe. In his 31 year Navy career, he served in Korea and Japan during the Korean War, graduated from the Naval War College, earned a Master's Degree in International Affairs, had many Tours of Sea Duty on Destroyers with ports around the world, Shore Duty included Navy Bases in multiple states across the USA. Upon Navy retirement, he went to work at GA Tech as Vice President and General Manager of GA Tech Research and Development. He often gave generously to a wide range of numerous charitable causes. He enjoyed extensive family travels to many countries, regions and states over the years. He reached the rank of Life Master as a bridge player and enjoyed poker. A fountain of knowledge, a constant story teller, and a proud Navy Officer. A Service will be held at the U. S. Naval Academy in January 2018.
