William JONES Obituary
JONES, William Richard "Bill" William Richard (Bill) Jones, 82, of Cumming Georgia passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on December 17, 2017. Bill was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on November 19, 1935 to William Richard Jones and Mary Ann Jones. After high school, he continued on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota (Go Golden Gophers!). Bill married his high school sweetheart, Lois Helen Jones (Mattson), in 1956. Immediately out of college, Bill joined the International Business Machine Corporation (IBM) as a sales trainee and remained with them for 37 years. He advanced rapidly and held a series of positions in IBM marketing to retail business which grew in title as the business grew, ultimately becoming Vice President of Sales for Retail Store Systems. Notable achievements in his career included marketing for IBM's first home computer, the PS-1, to being a key player in the expansion of the use of UPC bar codes to all retail. Bill was not a technical expert on computers, finding them as aggravating as the rest of us, but boy, could he sell them! After retiring from IBM, Bill hung out his own shingle and became a much sought after marketing consultant, fully retiring finally in 2005. Bill enjoyed reading, history, golf, music, food, drives in the country, and most of all, being with his family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and could deliver a joke with the best of them. Bill also loved to sing when given the opportunity. His last singing "performance" was only a few days before his passing when he joined in with a group of carolers for O Come, All Ye Faithful. He stole the show as usual! He was a member of The Church of the Good Shepherd in Cumming Georgia and was actively involved in charitable work with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and in serving as a Guardian Ad Litem. Bill will be sorely missed by his wife Lois; children, Greg (Barbara), Kathy, Laura (Art), and Mike (Stephanie); grandchildren, Katie (Pat), Abigail, Emily (John), Forrest, Sam, Gracie, and Brady; great grandchildren, Hendrix, Leo, and Paul, and other family and numerous friends, neighbors, and colleagues. A memorial mass will be held at 11 A.M., on Friday, January 5, 2018 at The Church of the Good Shepherd, 3740 Holtzclaw Road, Cumming, Georgia 30041. A luncheon for all guests will follow in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to The Jericho House (3621 Highway 255 North, Sautee, Georgia 30571 or online at www.thejerichohouse.org). Condolences may be expressed at www.mcdonaldandson.com. Arrangements by McDonald and Son Funeral Home, 150 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, GA 30040 (770) 886.9899.
