Yvonne M. PASS Obituary
PASS, Yvonne M. Yvonne M. Pass passed away on Sept 26, 2017 in Sandy Springs, GA at the age of 89, 4 days after what would have been the 98th birthday of her beloved husband, the late James S. Pass. At the time of "Jimmy's" death in 1996, they had been happily married for 48 years. Yvonne had been a resident of Hammond Glen for the last 20 years, where she developed lasting friendships with residents and staff. Yvonne was born in Mussoori, India, where her English parents had lived for years during British rule. In 1938, they left India and moved to the Channel Islands, in the English Channel between England and France. When Dunkirk fell to the Germans in World War II, she and her parents were evacuated on short notice by boat to England. They were allowed to bring only one suitcase each. They settled in Southampton, a port city in the southeast of England. There Yvonne survived the bombing campaign by the Germans, known as "The Blitz", and witnessed the Allied troops boarding ships for the invasion of Normandy on D-Day. She then met her future husband Jimmy, who made a career in the US Navy. During the Navy career, she lived in Boston, Norfolk, Philadelphia and Guantanamo, Cuba. Upon retirement from the Navy, she and Jimmy eventually moved to Atlanta, where Yvonne enjoyed a long career with Rich's Department Stores. They enjoyed early retirement together near Westminster, SC, on Lake Hartwell for many years until Jimmy passed away in 1996. Yvonne is survived by 2 sons (John Pass, and wife Anastasia, of Sandy Springs, GA; and Jim Pass, and wife Becky, of Raleigh, NC); 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 9 nieces and nephews; beloved sister-in-law Helen Panter of Fayetteville, GA; and many close friends. All enjoy fond memories of their time with Yvonne. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, the 1st of October at two o'clock in the afternoon at Patterson's Arlington Chapel. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family Sunday from one o'clock until the hour of service at H. M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, NW, Sandy Springs.
