Family-Placed Death Notice

THOMAS B. (TOM) GODDARD, JR. Thomas B. (Tom) Goddard, Jr., 64, of Monroe died Sunday October 28, 2007. A memorial service will be held at 3 PM Sunday November 4, 2007 in the gym at Monroe Area High School. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 PM until 3 PM. Private interment services will be held on Monday. Born in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Mr. Goddard grew up in the Eastlake area of Decatur and was a graduate of and football player at Decatur High School. He received his undergraduate degree at Georgia Southern, his MBA at West Georgia College, and a specialized degree at Jacksonville State University. Tom was a retired educator serving in Dekalb, Gwinnett, and for the past 16 years, in Walton County. He served as a teacher, coach, principal, and administrator. Most recently, he served as Director of Transportation for Walton County schools. Tom enjoyed volunteer work with the American Red Cross and the Boys and Girls Club. He was a dedicated runner and enjoyed running in marathons. Survivors include his wife, Alisa Lynn Goddard of Monroe; daughters, Kellie Marie Goddard Stenzinger of Walhalla, SC, Christie Leigh Gerdes of Griffin, and Alexis Brooke Goddard of Monroe; grandchildren, Skyla Marie Stenzinger and Peyton Michael Gerdes; sisters, Sharon Rice of Monroe and Vickie Koons of Stone Mountain; step-father, Hershel Johnson of Stockbridge; niece, Dolly, great-niece Katie; nephews, Kurt, Kevin, and Josh; and many extended family members and friends. In lieu of flowers, Tom requested that donations be made to an education fund for his daughter. Donations may be made at any Wachovia Bank to the Alexis Goddard Education Fund.
