AVENT, Betty BETTY BAKER AVENT Betty Baker Avent of Lawrenceville passed away peacefully at Hospice Atlanta on Saturday, April 14, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, April 18, at 11:00 a.m. at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. in the Fairview Memorial Gardens, Stockbridge, GA. Born on April 30, 1925, Betty was the last surviving sibling of seven children born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Baker of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Betty moved to the Atlanta area in 1964 with her husband Robert, where they and their two children made their home in Decatur, Tucker and Stone Mountain. In 2008, Betty moved to the Garden Plaza community in Lawrenceville. All of her life, she has been known as a loving and caring Christian woman who, despite her recent declining health, continued to enrich her relationships with family and friends. Betty retired from the Internal Revenue Service in Atlanta in 1979, after many years of dedicated service. She was active for many years at the First Baptist Church of Tucker and, in later years, she and her husband were faithful members of the First Baptist Church of Decatur. Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Robert Avent. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Kim Avent of Ellenwood and her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Chip Skidmore of Lawrenceville. She is also survived by her grandchildren Dustin Avent and wife Laura of McDonough; Mandy Hopkins and husband Marshall of Marietta; Corey and Carson Skidmore of Lawrenceville; Jared Sanders and wife Jana of Demorest; and Joel Sanders of Demorest. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Noelle, Luke and Landon Hopkins; Phoebe Avent; and Makenzie Sanders. Betty was also a special loving aunt to her many surviving nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Atlanta. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 17, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
