BITTL, Helmut HELMUT ANTON BITTL Helmut Anton Bittl passed away April 1, 2014 surrounded by family and friends in his final days. He was born in Munich, Germany on June 16, 1935. Helmut was the son of the late Anton Bittl and Margarete Volkamer. His beloved sister, Ilse Bittl Gropp, preceded Helmut in death. Helmut is survived by his two nephews: Michael Gropp (Patti) and Anthony Gropp (Jennifer). Growing up the Bittl family moved to the small town of Mörnsheim during the war years. While working for these companies he lived in L.A., Hawaii, Munich, Rotterdam, and eventually San Francisco. In 1974 Helmut came to Atlanta to open Petite Auberge Restaurant with his brother in law, Wolfgang Gropp. While the restaurant still proudly serves Atlanta today, Helmut retired from restaurant life in 1991.
