Family-Placed Death Notice

W.R. (Bob) Clifton, a resident of Fayette County since the late 1950's, passed away at home on May 22, 2007 from multiple organ failure after a long bout with sarcoidosis. Bob was born on March 6, 1929 in Marion County, Illinois, the only son of G. Cecil Clifton and Opal Eddings Clifton. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Norma Lee Clifton; three sons, Jon William Clifton of Florida, Jeffrey Paul Clifton and Gregory Cecil Clifton, both of Fayetteville, and one daughter, Connie Lee Clifton-Peacock of Newnan. Other survivors include Jeannie Weller Cooper of Florida for whom we had legal guardianship and raised and sister, Helen Clifton Blakeslee of Indiana. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. His parents and one sister, Kathleen, preceded him in death. Bob was a retired Delta Air Lines captain, former owner and developer of The Links Golf Course Fayette County, served on the Fayetteville City Council for eight years, an entrepreneur, a philanthropist, a teacher and an investor in oil fields. He was a member of the Fayette Presbyterian Church. Per Mr. Clifton's wishes, his body has been donated to Emory University School of Medicine for research. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to charity of your choice or to the Senior Center Fayetteville for a heated swimming pool. A memorial service will be at Mowell Funeral Home in Fayetteville on Sunday, May 27, at 2:00 PM. Carl J. Mowell & Son, Fayetteville, www.mowellfuneralhome.com
