Dear Daugherty family,

My condolences for Marty's passing. I attended SIU in the Avionics program with Marty and recently read the memoriam in the SIUC Aviation Newsletter. Marty and I never kept in touch after SIU but several of us were thick as thieves during those years. I have the best memories of that time, many due to Marty and his sense of humor and disposition. I will always remember him with the warmest regards.

Dear H and Janet, and all of your family,
Please know that we are thinking of you, and praying that you will soon receive the peace that only God Himself can give. Although we know that we belong to God, and He in His wisdom, will bring us to Himself when He wants us, I can't help but wonder why He wanted Marty this soon. He was just in the middle of what we call life. He was rasing his young family, having a great time with the children out in the snow, was just in the process of fixing up his home, and had just received a wonderful promotion at work not too long ago. He was a great son, brother, husband and father. He was a wonderful role model for all the young children he coached, and a model for the parents who watched him work with their children. He loved his wife and family so much and showed that love in everything he did for them. He was faithful in all that God asked of him. He accomplished so much in the short time he was on this earth. We can only wonder why?
God's blessings be on all of you at this time of sorrow. Eternal rest shine upon him, and may he rest in the peace of the Lord forever.
Our sincere love and sympathy,
Casey, Gene and Patrick Hagerman

Marty's smile brightened everyone day. Its been a hard couple years for our families. I cant really understand what Janet and H are going through, but I do understand what the boys are going through since I just went through it months ago. My family tried to make it work to come to Georgia but was not able to make it work out. Our condolences and prayers our with you.

Marty was always such a special person. We made him blush in high school, just by saying his name. I was so thrilled to visit with him at Nick's wedding in November. What a very special man . . . to his family, to his community, and to his company. We grieve for this loss! Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dearest Janet and family: Our deepest of sympathy goes out to you and your family. We share in your overwhelming grief in the loss of your husband/father. We remembered various times we have shared with your family over the past eleven years and how much we will treasure them. Your family reflected perfection, happiness, spirituality and love beyond comprehension...we hold all of you close to our hearts, not only at this time, but for the rest of our lives! May God keep you at peace during this very tragic time. We look forward to assisting you in the future for anything you may need! The world will greatly miss Marty. He was a truly caring and giving person who could make you feel alive simply by being around him. He was the human equivalent of a bottle of champagne. Your troubles seemed a little more distant, the sun a little brighter, your heart a little warmer every time you were in his presence. I know that your family will greatly grieve this loss, but his love and spirit will always be with you.

Dear "H" and Janet, as parents we can only imagine your grief. My brother Jim was the first in our family to die. The responsibility of telling Mom and Dad fell to me. One of the first things Mom said was, "This is not the way it should be. The parents should go first".
The four of us have have been friends since early school days. We have always had affection and respect for the two of you. Your loving relationship is reflected in your family. In this terrible time of helplessness it is ineviable that we question "why". Of course there is no answer. At least not in this world. "H" and Janet we must believe there is a reason why God wanted Marty to be with Him.
Margie and I are the last of our families and our one consolation is the belief our family members are preparing the way for us. There is no question in our minds that Marty is now and will always watch over the two of you, his siblings, his beloved wife and children.
God bless. You are in our prayers.
