BEDERMAN, David J. David J. Bederman July 26, 1961 - December 4, 2011 David J. Bederman, K. H. Gyr Professor of Private International Law, at Emory University School of Law, died on December 4, 2011, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was 50. Born and raised in Atlanta, David Bederman was a true son of the new south. After graduating from The Paideia School, he attended Princeton University, the London School of Economics, University of Virginia School of Law, and The Hague Academy of International Law. Bederman returned home to Atlanta in 1991 to teach at Emory from 1991-2011. Recognizing his extraordinary breadth as a scholar, author, legal historian, beloved teacher, and expert litigator, Emory Law recently established the David J. Bederman Distinguished Lecture. He was also Chairman of the Board of Odyssey Marine Exploration, Inc. in Tampa. David J. Bederman is survived by his wife, Lorre Cuzze; his beloved daughter, Annelise Bederman; his parents, Dr. Sanford and Jolayne Bederman and extended family. A memorial service will be held at Cannon Chapel of Emory University on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Professor Bederman's memory may be made to either the: Patient's Assistance Fund at the Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University or the research laboratory of Dr. H. Richard Alexander, Jr., Professor of Research and Associate Chairman for Clinical Research at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
