Family-Placed Death Notice

RUTH ALLISON JOHNSTON DUNCAN Mrs. Ruth Allison Johnston Duncan, of 101 Vernon Woods Drive, died Tuesday morning, December 13, 2005 in LaGrange, GA. Mrs. Duncan was born May 24, 1919 in Clarksburg, WV. She was the daughter of the late Jessie Johnston and Herbert Johnston. She was married to the late James Jackson Duncan. She was a devoted mother, homemaker, and artist. She and her family moved to LaGrange in 1969 from Atlanta, GA. Mrs. Duncan was a portrait artist and sold her oil paintings in the 1960s. She was a member of the Little Theatre Guild in LaGrange, GA in the 1970s and had a standing ovation in the production of Don't Drink the Water. In the 1980's, she held the championship in duplicate bridge. She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in LaGrange. Her greatest loves were her family, the arts, and her church. She had many cherished friends among the residents and staff of Vernon Woods, where she lived for the last several years. Survivors include a son, James Ross Duncan; a daughter and son-in-law, Amy D. and John M. Jackson; granddaughters, Shannon Laine Duncan, Sarah Elizabeth Jackson, and Nikki Ruth Jackson; and many nieces and nephews from Clarksburg, WV. She enriched the lives of those closest to her, and she will be missed. The family will host a memorial service at 1 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2005 at the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange, with Dr. Douglas DeCelle and Dr. William Conine officiating. The family will receive friends at Vernon Woods from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, December 15, 2005. Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange. Arrangements are by Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 1010 Mooty Bridge Road. (706) 884-8636
