Margaret RATCLIFF Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

RATCLIFF, Margaret Margaret (Peggy) Hartman Ratcliff, 89, died Sunday April 7, after a brief illness. Born August 1, 1923 in Madison, WI, Peggy resided many years on the family farm in Lilburn. Peggy was a noted artist specializing in enamel-on-copper, most recently exhibiting at the Avery Gallery in Marietta. Peggy's enamel-on-copper was the first retail line of this art form in the US. She presented a keynote address at the American Enamellist Society meeting in 1985 and taught in Belize. Although Peggy had no children, she was a second mother to many, acting as guide, teacher, mentor and friend. She nurtured children and animals throughout her life, giving of herself to all of them. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Ratcliff, founder and director of the Carl Ratcliff Dance Theater in Atlanta. An extended network of Hartman family members (blood and honorary) are blessed to have had Peggy in their lives. A celebration of life will be held at Red Arrow Ranch, 3463 Vista Trail, Lilburn, GA 30047 on Saturday, April 13 at 2pm. Casual attire is encouraged. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Arthritis Swim Class Scholarship Fund at Tull YMCA, 2985 Sugarloaf Parkway, Lawrenceville, GA. 30045.
