Family-Placed Death Notice

BLAINE, Mildred Atlanta native Mildred Carolyn Blaine, 65 giver of joy and happiness passed unto the Lord of natural causes on Monday, September 30, 2013. She will always be remembered for her charity, love, laughter and glamour. A true "Buckhead Girl," Carolyn grew up on West Wesley Road and graduated with honors from Westminster High School. After finishing college at St. Mary's in Raleigh, NC, and the University of Georgia with a degree in Education, she soon set her sights on the world. Carolyn built a well-deserved reputation in the travel and entertainment industries -- a career that began in the early 70's when she hosted and entertained tour groups of wealthy, elite socialites touring throughout Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific. In 1986 she relocated to Southern California and brought her radiant Southern charm to Hollywood, soon becoming one of the entertainment industry's most sought after international celebrity event coordinators. For six years the Royal Family of Monaco experienced Carolyn's talents as an essential coordinator for the annual World Music Awards, and for seven years, she brought her expertise to Niles productions' Monte Carlo Pro-Celebrity Tennis/Golf Grand championships. Carolyn handled the coordination of celebrities' needs for such prestigious functions as Elizabeth Taylor's televised 65th birthday gala, the 11th Annual American Cinema Awards, several Emmy shows, and the grand opening party for the Beverly Hills Planet Hollywood. In Hollywood, she was a founding member of The Association of Celebrity Personal Assistants and active in Women in Show Business. She was also "seen" as a contestant on shows such as Match Game, Wheel of Fortune, Pictionary, To Tell the Truth, Make Me Laugh and Card Sharks. A desire to be closer to aging mother brought Carolyn "home" to Atlanta in 1998. She continued her work with celebrity event management, having served for five years as the event coordinator for Jane Fonda's annual Atlanta movie premieres, live auctions and dinner galas raising over $500,000 each year benefiting the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention. In 2009, Carolyn served as the event chairman of the Evening of Excellence gala, celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the March of Dimes. When not volunteering in community service, Carolyn devoted time in playing duplicate bridge, traveling, attending Pi Beta Phi sorority and school alumnae functions, and reading. A reunion without Carolyn's coordination efforts never happened. Carolyn was predeceased by her father Dr. Belford Christy Blaine, MD, LLB, her mother Mildred McKnight Blaine, and her oldest sister, Lucille Hiatt Plantikow. Her survivors are her sister, Helen Pritchett Heyd of East Cobb and her brother, Belford Christy Blaine, Jr. of Savannah, as well as eight nieces and nephews and fourteen great-nieces and nephews, all who adored their "Aunt CB". A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Arlington Cemetery 201 Mt. Vernon Hwy. Sandy Springs, GA. Arrangements are being handled by Cremation Society of Georgia. Instead of flowers, please make a remembrance to Childspring International.
