Edith Gayla FULLER Obituary
FULLER, Edith Gayla GAYLA FULLER Edith Gayla Fuller, daughter of Bishop William Edward Fuller, Jr. and Christine Williams Fuller, was born June 16, 1949 in Atlanta, Georgia. She accepted Christ in her life at the age of 8 and began her walk with Christ at Fire Baptized Holiness Church. She was very active with the Young People's Institute (YPI). After moving to Dallas, Texas in 1982, she joined First Baprist Church of Hamilton Park under the late Dr. J. Lee Foster. In 2006, when her health began to fail, she joined Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church under Dr. C. W. Wallace, so she could attend church with her best friend and sister, Jo D. Love. Gayla received her Bachelor's degree from Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio and her Law Degree from the University of Michigan School of Law. After receiving her law degree, and passing the Georgia State Bar, she moved to the Washington, D. C. area where she worked as a Senior Staff Attorney for the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Public Health Division, Rockville, MD. In 1981, she was offered the position of Deputy Chief Counsel in Dallas, Texas which she accepted. In 1984, she was promoted to the position of Chief Counsel for the Dallas Region which included Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas. In this position, she provided legal advice and services to the many components of the Department which included the Office of the Secretary, the Office of Civil Rights, Administration for Children and Families, Administration on Aging, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Indian Health Service, Food and Drug Administration, Office of the Inspector General and Public Health Service. She served in the position for 23 years until her retirement. Gayla was a very dedicated, loyal and highly respected lawyer. Gayla was an active member of many professional organizations throughout the Dallas Area. Her hobbies included traveling, reading, bowling, movies and music. Gayla is preceded in death by her parents, Bishop W. E. Fuller, Jr. and Christine Williams Fuller. She leaves to lament in her passing and celebrate her home going her brothers, William Edward Fuller, III (Dr. Carolyn Cody-Fuller) of Greenville, SC; Ronald David Fuller (Lisa Fuller) of Atlanta, GA; Derek Keith Fuller of Atlanta, GA; Best friend and sister, Jo Davis-Love (Rev. Henry Love) of Plano, TX; Nieces, Christina Gregory (Art Gregory) of Greenville, SC; Joy Fuller of Atlanta, GA; God-daughters Robyne Brenae Fantroy and Jimese Prinsel Liggins, both of Plano, TX; her surrogate mother, Mrs. Effie Turner Davis of Fairfield, TX, her devoted caregivers; Gertrude (Trudy) Mauwa, Grace Ojwang, Eva West and Roselyn Nziradzemhuka, all of Plano, TX., her church family and a host of friends and relatives. Visitation will be from 6-8PM, Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Friday, February 21, 2014 at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Dallas, TX.
