Shirley GREER

GREER, Shirley SHIRLEY B. GREER Shirley B. Greer, of Vinings, GA, passed away on May 19, 2014. A longtime Atlanta resident, Mrs. Greer grew up on Collier Road and attended North Fulton High School where she graduated in 1949. She developed a love for the game of bridge at a young age and played with the same group of girls for 56 years. She looked forward to the bridge club's annual jaunts to Sea Island for days filled with bridge and fine dining. She was also an avid bowler and belonged to a Monday morning league for many years. Her next adventure was Interior Design School, which she took with her friend, Jackie Scott. However, after they finished design school they discovered their love of antiques and established Antiques of Vinings in The Old Pavilion on Mountain Street in 1982. They later relocated the business to Vinings Jubilee where they stayed for years. Two years ago, Shirley and her partners moved Antiques of Vinings back to Mountain Street, where it is today. She still traveled to England twice a year to shop for antiques for her shop. She truly had the "eye." She and her late husband, Richard, the love of her life, enjoyed life to the fullest and traveled the world. They especially enjoyed cruises and took many together and often took the whole family along. Nothing was more important to Shirley than her family. She relished every moment with her children and grandchildren. She hosted Christmas Eve at her house for her entire family every year of her life. She spent months searching for a special gift that each person would love. She loved her lake house, where she spent many weekends with her beloved family. She was very active in her community of Vinings and loved living there. She supported all causes for the good of Vinings and everyone knew her name. She was a "grand dame" of sorts to the community and her list of friends was endless. She was known for her beautifully manicured nails, her perfectly coifed hair and she was always dressed to the nines and never without her lipstick. She was a true Southern Belle and her daughter, Gillian, always told her friends, "If you look up Southern Belle in the dictionary, there will be a picture of Mom." Mrs. Greer was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Goldsmith Greer and is survived by her children, Gillian Ann Greer, Paul Olds Greer, Clark Olds Greer, Gail Greer Gordon; step-daughter, Jane Roberts Greer; grandchildren, Richard Greer, James Greer, Christopher Greer, Victoria Greer, Hunter Gordon, Greer Ann Gordon; and great grandson, Andrew Greer. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Peachtree Presbyterian Church in the Kellett Chapel. Entombment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd., NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
