Jan MOORMAN Obituary

MOORMAN, Jan Garrett Jan Garrett Moorman bid adieu from this world after a well lived 76 years on Thursday, December 15th, 2016. She was born on November, 23rd, 1940 in Parkersburg, WV, the second daughter of Paul and Fay Garrett. At the age of sixteen, she moved to Roanoke, VA, where she graduated from Jefferson High School in 1958. There, she was elected Vice President of the student council after only one year of attendance. She graduated from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia in 1963 as an English major. Shortly after, she became a flight attendant for American Airlines. On June 26th, 1964, she married John Kenneth Moorman. She taught school in Charlottesville, VA enabling Ken to go to law school there. Jan and Ken proceeded to never stop actively seeing the world. Jan was the runner of 31 consecutive Peachtree Road Races. She was a spark, with a smile and a laugh no one could ignore. She loved poodles, thunderstorms, and the ocean. She was a seashell hunter, a fashion maven, an interior designer/decorator, and the bringer of birthday cupcakes. She was a Shepherd Center Pet Therapy Volunteer. She was an aerobic dancer, a disco dancer, a guide with Presenting Atlanta Tours, and an eater of Sunbelt Salads. She professionally shopped, she baked Reese's bars, and she was a devoted Hopalong Cassidy / Clark Howard fan. She was a fighter, she was determined, she was inspiring, and her outfits were always on the forefront of fashion (wowing hip hop rappers and debutants alike). She was forced to watch countless hours of football, basketball, baseball, tennis, soccer, cross country, and golf, and she never complained, much. She is survived by husband of 52 years, Ken Moorman, Atlanta; two sons, Chris Moorman, Atlanta (Deborah) and Trent Moorman, Seattle; three grandchildren, Garrett, Will, and Edee; sister, Sylvia Webber, Hurricane, WV; sister-in-law, Mary Anne Moorman, Seattle, nephews and niece, Steven Webber, Falls Church, VA, Paul Webber, Charleston, WV (Kim), Anne Schmidt, Hurricane, WV; aunt Mable Broadwater, Vienna, WV; nephew-in-law, Shawn Moorman (Kathy), Broadway, VA. Jan is also survived by an incredible collection of purses. A celebration of life will be held at 2pm on Thursday, December, 22nd at Northside United Methodist Church, 2799 Northside Dr, Atlanta, GA, 30305. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, Office of Gift Records, Emory University, 1762 Clifton Rd, NE, Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA, 30322.
