Dana Wilson Obituary

WILSON, Dana Jewell Dana Jewell Wilson was born January 3, 1944 in Atlanta, Georgia to Jewell Peeples Wilson and Thomas Hardy Wilson. Preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Thomas Mabrey Wilson, and her stepfather, Dorsey Hugh McMickle, Dana departed this life on Thursday, December 28, 2017, aged 73 years. An adorable, golden-haired child, Dana was the light and life of the family and the apple of her Daddy's eye. She could always melt her Daddy's heart but her two brothers were a tougher proposition. Mabrey, aforesaid, and the younger William Delano Wilson, "Billy Wilson" now also known as, Scott Wilson, were fiercely protective of their baby sister but never failed to tease her when opportunity arose. While their father built a contracting business in Atlanta, the children played happily with their many friends in the neighborhood, always under the watchful eye of mother Jewell who loved them beyond measure without ever neglecting the lessons of a good life. Still a child, Dana performed as one of the King's children in "The King and I" at the Theatre of the Stars in Atlanta and was chosen for the Atlanta City Ballet, at the time, the youngest child to have had that honor. Sadly, what might have been an exciting career in dance was cut short by the sudden death of her father and the subsequent move of the family to Thomasville, GA to be closer to their mother's parents, three brothers, and their families. In time, with her children grown, Jewell would marry Dorsey Hugh McMickle, a World War II veteran. With many cousins and friendships that have endured to this day, Dana flourished and graduated from Thomasville High School in 1962. She continued her studies at Tift College and then moved on to a career in the secretarial/office manager field wherein, over the next few decades, she moved from Atlanta to West Palm Beach and back to Thomasville, working for attorneys, accountants, doctors, other medical professionals at Archbold Memorial Hospital and the American Troopers Association. Dana was a loving, giving, caring sister and friend to many. She had a zest for life, an infectious laugh and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her brother, the actor Scott Wilson, his wife Heavenly Wilson, stepsisters Nancy McMickle Reichert and Pam McMickle Greco and many dearly loved cousins and friends. Services will be held at 2:00PM, Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Allen & Allen Funeral Home Chapel, 110 West Hansell St, Thomasville, Georgia, 31792. Burial will be 2:00PM, January 6, 2017 at Westview Cemetery, 1680 Westview Drive, S.W., Atlanta, Georgia, 30310. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
