Family-Placed Death Notice

JAMES LOUIS ANDERSON, SR. Homegoing services for James Louis Anderson, Sr., of 2195 Fleetwood Court, SW Atlanta will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at Wheat Street Baptist Church, 359 Auburn Ave. NE at 1:00 pm. Rev. Dr. Michael Harris Pastor officiating. Interment Westview Cemetery. He served honorably in the United States Army during WWII, Italian and North African theatres, for which he received numerous commendations. Following his military service he graduated with the highest honors from both Morehouse College and Atlanta University. He served in the Atlanta Public School System for 34 years. During his tenure at Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta, he served as mathematics teacher, schedule committee chairperson, and founder of the Washington High Schoolchess club in the early 1950's. He then served as the assistant principal at the newly founded Central Junior High followed by full principalship of Parks Junior/Middle School. His final tenure was at West Atlanta Elementary. He retired in 1984, where he continued to serve the teaching community at the Atlanta Teacher's Federal Credit Union. Cherished in his memory are his loving and faithful wife of sixty years, Mary Grace Burson Anderson; three children- James Louis, Jr. (Charlie Mae Merritt), Juliet Valencia, and Alan Julian (Tracy Renee Brown). Grandchildren- Jade Maia Lambert-Smith (Cedric Lloyd Cunningham Smith) and Alana Mary Grace Anderson. Great Grandchildren Elijah Idriis Lambert-Smith, Derek Boston, Jr.; Grandchildren Melissa Nicole Boston and Henry Edward Penney. Sisters Mable Hall Clark and Helen B. Anderson. Brothers- Edgar Larry Jones and Oscar Perry Jones. Everyone is asked to assemble at the residence at 12 Noon. Haugabrooks Funeral Home, 404-522-8217.
