Frank Jenkins Jr.

SARDIS, Ga. - Frank Leslie Jenkins, Jr., 91, of Sardis, Ga., went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ, Whom he accepted at an early age and served faithfully his entire life, on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Friday morning, November 18 at 11am at Sardis Baptist Church. Burial will be held at Sardis Baptist Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be Thursday, November 17, 6pm-8pm, at the family residence. Leslie was born October 4, 1925 in Munnerlyn, Ga., the son of the late Frank Leslie Jenkins, Sr. and Florence Haeseler Jenkins. He was a third generation grocer, owner of F.L. Jenkins & Son grocery in Sardis, Ga. He was a graduate of Oglethorpe University, and served his country in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy during World War II. Leslie was an active member of American Legion Post 180, and continued his spirit of service in his community as a volunteer fireman, city councilman, and member of the CSRA Development Authority. Leslie was an active member of Sardis Baptist Church, serving in many roles throughout the years, such as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Director, Deacon, Choir member, and serving on various committees. He was honored as Deacon Emeritus in 2011. He was active in the Emmaus community which led to one of his passions in life, ministering to prisoners through the Kairos Prison Ministry. After retirement, Leslie, known as the Banter Boy, shared many of his life experiences and historical events as a guest columnist for The True Citizen newspaper. Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Annette Herndon Jenkins, the love of his life; his children, Barry Jenkins, Sardis, Phyllis Jenkins, Martinez, Albert (Ruth) Jenkins, Charleston, SC, and Les (Sheila) Jenkins, Sardis. Grandchildren: Amy Jenkins, Andrea Riggs, Cassie Jenkins, Matthew Jenkins, Amanda (Dave) Marancik, Jenni (Joe) Lairscy, Austin Jenkins, Jessi Jenkins, Jaimee Jenkins, Joseph Jenkins, and numerous great-grands, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Daniel Jenkins. Memorials may be given in his honor to Sardis Baptist Church.
