Funeral Services for Mr. Lowell Walter Smith, 77, who departed the shadowlands on Monday, January 8, 2018, and entered his eternal home, thanks to the grace, mercy and love of Jesus Christ, will be conducted Friday morning at 10 o'clock from the First Baptist Church of North Augusta. Dr. Gary C. Redding officiating. Interment in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born in Augusta, Georgia, son of the late Walter Manchester and Louise Wilson Smith, and resided in the North Augusta area throughout his life. He spent his entire career at WRDW-TV 12 and worked each Sunday morning during that time at First Baptist Church of Augusta to televise the church's worship services. He grew up at First Presbyterian Church of Augusta and attended First Baptist Church of North Augusta, where he and his wife were married. He volunteered with the North Augusta Lions Club.

His family includes his wife of 56 years, Melvis Marshall Smith; one daughter, Elizabeth Wilson Smith Merritt (Russ); and three grandchildren, Jackson Lowell, Charles Russell, and Robin Annette. He has one sister, Janet Davis; one cousin who is like a sister, Bobbie Templeton; brother-in-law, Greg Marshall (Susan); and nieces, nephews, and cousins on both sides. He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Sue Marshall and brother-in-law, Thomas Davis.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Thomas, Billy Marshall, Jimmy Marshall, Leo Boehmer, Newton Manly, Donnie Manly, Charles Moody, Steve Johnston, Bob Holman, Lee Sheridan Lynn, James Elam, and Charley Britt.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home this Thursday evening from 6 until 8.
