Dr. Curly Watson was privileged to practice OBGYN 64 years at University Hospital, serving as Chief of Obstetrics for 63 years and delivering over 15, 000 babies. Those of us who were close to him knew that above all, he had a servant's heart. He served his church, his profession, his family, and his community. Doc was a devoted usher and church member at Grace United Methodist Church. Dr. Watson walked the halls of University Hospital sharing kind words, peppermints, and newspapers to staff and patients alike. Papa Doc was a humble man who was a devoted husband, daddy, granddaddy and great granddaddy who led by example. An active supporter of the community, he performed physicals for the football team for over 65 years. Cally's boys will remember the many milkshake tickets. He was a loving family man, a wonderful doctor, and an obedient servant of Christ. Additional survivors include his five children: Donah Watson Cooper (Randy), Ben Gamewell Watson (Joanne), Kathy Watson (Pat), Betsy Watson Corbin (Bryan), and Mary Watson Allen (Tom); grandchildren: Wendy Cooper Wiggins (Terrell), Candice Cooper Herndon, Claire Cooper Jordan (Michael), Randi Cooper Gay (Bill), Kacie Watson Greene, Jamie Watson Young (Kyle), Kyle Watson (Breanne), Patrick Watson (Katie), Matthew Watson (Erin), Wade Watson, Joe Ben Watson, Mac Breazeale, Ben Breazeale (Gina), Meryl Breazeale, Westley Allen and Chris Allen; great grandchildren: Liam Wiggins, McKenna Wiggins, Cooper Herndon, Graham Herndon, Henry Herndon, Noah Jordan, Samuel Jordan, Carolina Jordan, Andrew Gay, Audrey Gay, Lillie Gay, Smith Watson, Edith Watson, Kale Greene, Hank Greene, Beck Greene, Watson Young, Wells Young, Brownley Young, Mason Breazeale, Britton Breazeale, and Cullen Breazeale; one sister, Kathryn Dixon; and one nephew, Walter Dixon. Dr. Watson will never be forgotten. I remember my mother telling me that when she was pregnant with my brother, she was waiting to see Dr. Watson and saw Mrs. Watson sitting in the waiting room one day. While they were talking, she told my Mom that sometimes the only way she could see him was by coming to the office! He delivered not only my brother (born in 1952) but also my two children who are now in their 40s. His legacy will live on for decades, maybe forever! Our prayers are with all of the family at this sad time. May God bless you.

Dr. Watson was a wonderful, inspirational doctor and human being. I was the first baby he delivered for my family; many followed, including my own daughter. I will never forget his gentle, warm kindness and the wonderful care he took of our family. Our mother was his patient for well over fifty years; he came by her room to check on her when she was in the hospital for spinal surgery. Rest in peace Dr. Watson, you are remembered fondly and loved by many. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this time of sadness. Dr Watson delivered my daughter 21 years ago and made a home visit soon afterwards. He would ask about my family each dr visit and I would show him pictures of Kathleen as she grew up. I too, feel like I lost part of my Father when he passed away. What a great man. He always put God first, his family second, and his job third. And people wonder why he lived so long...to leave us examples of how we all should live in this world. God bless you, Dr Watson and rest in peace.

To the Watson family - my heart is saddened to hear of the loss of Dr. Watson. He delivered my twins many years ago and what a fine Christian servant and doctor. Prayers are with you.

My last appointment with Dr. Watson, June 2010

October 25, 2012

It's very difficult to put into a few short words just what Dr. Watson meant to me. He became my doctor when I was 15 years old and continued caring for me until he retired (over 35 years). He delivered my second child when he was 80 and operated on me when he was 88. He was just as spry then as he was when I began going to him in 1976. When God called him home, it was like another piece of my Daddy left with him. Men just aren't made anymore the way my Daddy and Dr. Watson were made.
Family - I can only imagine how your hearts are breaking, but please find comfort in knowing that he was one of the BEST men this world has even known. In his own words, "God, family, and work". Somehow he balanced them all.
