DECATUR, Ga. - Dr. Victor Dickens, age 59, passed at Odyssey Hospice in Decatur, Ga. on March 3, 2012. He was born June 18, 1952 in Roanoke Rapids, NC to Mrs. Isabelle H. Dickens and the late Mr. Thomas E. Dickens, Sr. He was baptized at an early age into the service of the Lord at St. Matthew A.M.E. Church in Weldon, NC. Dr. Dickens was a graduate of Gumberry High School in Gumberry, NC and Kenyon College in Gambier, OH. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1978. After completing residency training in Youngstown, OH., he practiced family medicine and later emergency medicine in Ohio and Georgia for more than two decades. Several years ago, he developed health challenges that he fought bravely until his demise. He was devoted to his family and friends as he was to his profession, and will be remembered as a wise caring person to the many who loved him. He truly had a gifted mind, and will be recalled for his love of electronics and deep sea fishing, as well as for his courage in adversity. He lived as he believed, and he demonstrated his strong faith in Jesus Christ through his tireless service to others. He is survived by his wife of 33years; Judith Dickens, daughter; Adrienne, two granddaughters; Anastasia Dickens, and Jasmine McCraney, his mother; Isabelle H. Dickens of Garysburg, NC, one brother; Thomas E. Dickens, Jr., of Garysburg, NC, two sisters; Dr. Lillian Riddick (Frank) of Gaithersburg, MD and Dr. Jeanne Dickens of Brownsburg, IN, brother-in-law; Melvin Williams of Newark, NJ, an uncle; Alexander Williams of Oxford, NC, four aunts; Lillian Miller of Oxford, NC, Nellie Hicks of Oxford, NC Doretha Dickens of Camden, NJ and Lenora Tayloy of Philadelphia, PA. One nephew, Terrence Riddick of Gaithersburg, MD, one niece, Andrea Riddick of Gaithersburg, MD and many cousins, other relatives and friends. A viewing will be held Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 1pm until 8pm at Raleigh Rucker Funeral Home. Also, a viewing will be held Saturday March 24, 2012 at Boone's Chapel Baptist Church in Jackson, NC. from 2:00PM until 6:00PM Graveside service will be held Sunday, March 25, 2012 at Crestview Memorial Cemetery Roanoke Rapids, NC at 3:00PM.
