HEPHZIBAH, Ga. - John Edward Sherrod, 87, of Hephzibah, GA, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at his son s residence in Midville, GA. Mr. Sherrod was born in Emanuel County, GA. He was the son of the late John Horace Sherrod and Anne Frances Beckworth Sherrod. He lived in Hephzibah for the past 40 years. He retired from Lilly Tulip after 42 years of services as a pressman and a mechanic. John enjoyed fishing, hunting, and his job. He was an avid horse lover, where he trained race horses for 21 years. His favorite pastimes were dancing and watching the Atlanta Braves baseball. John is survived by his son, Donald (Audrey) Sherrod of Midville, GA; 2 sisters, Annie Mae Johnson of Midville, GA, and Marguerite Rollins of Augusta, GA; grandchildren, Rachael Akridge, Natalie Sills and David Biggs; 4 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Annie Florence Burton and 1 sister-in-law, Mat Sherrod of Midville, GA. The family will receive friends Thursday (tonight) 5 pm to 7 pm at The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Rd., Hwy. 25, Augusta, 30906, with funeral services to follow at 7 pm at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held on Friday, February 27 at 2pm in Union Grove Methodist Church in Midville, GA.
