CONYERS, Ga. - Mr. Lewis Belcher, Jr., age 83 of Conyers, GA, died Monday, October 26, 2015. His youth was spent in Augusta, GA as the son of Mr. Lewis Belcher, Sr., stepson to Mrs. Floriene Belcher and brother to Benjamin and Luther Belcher. Dr. Jacquelyn Meredith Belcher, his wife of many years, was raised in St. Joseph MO where he would often visit friends and family including his in-laws Mr. William "Dickie" Dixon and Mrs. Ada Dixon, brother in-law Mr. Donald Meredith and sister-in-law Mrs. Betty Welton. He is survived by his loving wife Dr. Jacquelyn Meredith Belcher, Conyers GA; daughters Toni Kaye Belcher Newell, Green Valley AZ and Terri Kaye Belcher, Conyers GA; son-in-law LaFrank Newell, Green Valley AZ; grandchildren, Teya Williams, Pittsburgh PA, Andrea Whitman, Jennifer Newell; great-grandchildren Tyler Whitman, Braiden Whitman, Nash Whitman, all of Seattle WA; brother and sister-in-law, Luther and Betty Belcher, Augusta GA. "Lew" was a career veteran of the United States Air Force. He and Jacquee moved to Rockdale County over eighteen years ago. He worked tirelessly in Rockdale County and surrounding communities supporting local businesses and championing the disenfranchised. He made it his mission to telegraph information and raise questions with residents about community affairs, encouraging people to act based on informed decisions, holding their elected and appointed officials accountable. His voice and energy will be missed, but not forgotten. Family will receive friends at the Visitation on Friday, November 6, 2015 from 10 am until 9 pm at the Scot Ward Funeral Home. A Mass will be held Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 11 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Father Gregory Goolsby as celebrant. Come share stories and memories at the Celebration Reception immediately after the Mass until 4 pm at the Scot Ward Funeral Home.
