Bradley T. "Porque" Baker

Bradley Baker Obituary

Baker, Bradley T. "Porque" Age 58, of Nashville, Tennessee, formerly of Aurora passed away Friday, August 31, 2012 at his residence. He was born January 10, 1954 in Aurora, the son of the late Shirley (Don) and Lorna (Brown) Baker. He was a graduate of Williams Military Academy in Wheaton and East Aurora High School. Brad spent most of his life working in the music industry. His early years were spent singing and working with Chicago area rock bands including Studebaker Hawk and The Boyzz from Illinois. Later he traveled the world with music legends such as Chicago, The Beach Boys, Alvin Lee & Ten Years After, Loverboy and Night Ranger. But, he was best known for the many years he toured with REO Speedwagon serving as a guitar technician for Kevin Cronin and Bruce Hall. He also formed and fronted his own band known as Hotel Bill and The Incidentals, and penned the cult classic song "Wasted Rock Ranger" which was recorded by the band Great White. Later in his career, Brad managed Third Encore Studios in Los Angeles where he virtually worked with everybody who was anybody in the music business. He later transferred to Nashville and helped to open Sound Stage Studios continuing to serve the brightest stars in Country Music. Brad also conceived, developed and promoted the famous Itchycoo Park Music Festival in Tennessee which grew into the massive annual Bonaroo festival. His final years were spent managing and engineering sound at the End Nightclub in Nashville. Affectionately known throughout the industry by his nickname "Porque", he had an influence on all he came in contact with. Leaving an indelible mark on everyone he met with his contagious smile and vibrant nature, Brad was truly larger than life. We are certain that Heaven just got a great singer and it is a whole lot louder up there! Brad is survived by his niece, Kim (Baker) Nickels of Silvis, Illinois and a "sister", Dr. Helen Baker of Montgomery. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. Neal Baker. There will be no funeral. A celebration of his life will be held in Nashville at a later date. Austin Funeral & Cremation Services, 615-377-0775.

Brad was also a good friend to me during The Mug days in Aurora. We knew each other when I was a musician & when I was the sound guy for Buster. Lost track of him after REO but was thought of many times over the years. He was that kind of guy.

Brad was a good friend and 'brother in spirit' for over 30 years beginning at The Mug in Aurora, IL with a band called Buster and continuing to California with Electrotec and TMB. I missed him after his move to Nashville. Thinking back, much of the time we worked together was in fact 'the time o' my life'. His memory will live on and I will continue to miss him.

Brad was a good friend...more like a brother. I had the pleasure of knowing him - met him when he was living for a decade (plus) in California. He'd always call when sometings "fun" was happening...invite me to be backstage during shows he was working with various musical groups. He introduced me to those he thought I'd enjoy meeting. He'd invite me over for Thanksgiving and Christmas in August just to make sure I didn't go anywhere else. So many great thing - riding around in my MG, on my Yamaha (that must have been a sight...one time he held on so tight I thought he'd crack a rib :) ) I was sad to see him leave CA, and remember he asked me to go with he and Maya to Nashville to "set up shop" there. Wish I could have gone! Though I lost contact in recent years, I thought of him often. He's one of the few people I've known who fit two lifetimes into one - he loved life...and I will miss him!

God speed my friend! I quote: "C-YA!"...in a little while.

Porque, We had some amazing times. Your parties, hitting the Illinois shows of Gambler, and meeting up in cities during your tours with various bands. You're one of a kind, a super friend, and someone who will be missed. I thank you for your friendship, and know that you are with "Jimmy and his friends"

RIP Brad,

We knew Brad in another life. He was best man at our wedding. I'm sure he'd remember sledding at Phillips park, singing 'One Fine Morning' at his cheezy bar in his dining room, and playing football on Sunday afternoons and so many more. Always wondered what happened to you Brad.
