Wow, I was going to get in touch with Mr. D to tell him all the ways he inspired me to become a teacher only to find out he had passed. Well Mr D, you are one of the most inspirational people I have ever met. You were not only a special one-of-a-kind teacher, but also a special person. You not only challenged your students but you encouraged them as well. I will never forget the message you left me in my 8th grade yearbook. You are missed, God bless you! Rest In Peace Mr. D!

My friend, Scott, you have left me with many memories. In 1995 you did more than be my student teacher; you taught me valuable lessons, too. Daniel was a baby and you liked holding him as we talked school stuff. You played in the first "Turkey Bowl" football game during Thanksgiving break on the Bellair Greenbelt. Too many good times to write them all. I guess the angels in Heaven were jealous, as E. A. Poe said. You are missed by many!

To say Coach D charismatic would be an understatement. He was the type of person who could be having a bad day and still walk into class or onto the courts and change his attitude. Some days he could make someone smile just from the energy and sheer joy of life he exuded. He was always willing to lend a hand; whether it was for extra time on the courts to get a serve just right or giving feedback on the first college essay before it was due, he always found the time.

Mr. D was an amazing teacher, in the classroom as well as in sports. In class, he brought the lessons and literature to life; I had hated Beowulf before his class and after, not only did I love the story, but it helped fuel my passion for writing and editing.

The world has lost a true light - someone who gave inspiration to so many and will be missed. Rest in peace Coach Dessenberger, my teacher and my friend.

Scott will be missed by everyone who knew him. I remember when he got big enough to sit on the roof of our house to watch fireworks and then he just kept growing. Mr D., I couldn't believe it when I heard the news of your passing. When I met first you, you had this beaming smile along with your scruffy beard. You were an amazing educator. One of those who inspired me to become one myself.

I remember saying to myself, 'Wow, when the time comes, I want to be that kind of teacher.' I'm certain that he has positively influenced a lot of lives including mine even when before he started teaching.

That is the kind of the person he is. The world is a much better place with good people around and he was undoubtedly one of them.

I am saddened by this news and my condolences go towards his family.

So if it's possible that he could read this, I just want to say that it was a blessing to have met him. My prayers for him and towards his family in this time of sorrow.

May you rest in peace Mr. D. You will forever stay in memory.

Scott, my genuine friend.

Although consumed by profound sadness with your passing, I will always cherish the time spent with you over the past 20 years. We had the type of friendship that didn't matter if we last spoke and 3 hours, 3 days or 3 months previously - whenever we would meet, it would be like we had just spoken the previous day. We had so many great adventures and quality family time spent together that I will never forget You made me laugh, listened when I needed someone to confide to, offered advice and challenged me when I needed it. Twice, you literally saved me from physical harm (once deep out to sea on the Gulf of Mexico, once at Hooter's of all places). I am comforted to know another guardian angel in Heaven is now watching over me. You were an awesome Godfather and role model to our kids and your philosophies and outlook on life will always be with us. There will be a great void in our physical lives that cannot be replaced but I know that you are with us all spiritually.

Your friend.

Such a huge loss of society and to the eduction system, a true diamond. Our Son was blessed to have him as a teacher and we then came to know him as parents and what an honor it was. Even after Dan moved on to other teachers we would always go visit Mr.Dessenberger. He cared for all of his students and pushed them to excel. Dan says he will always remember a lecture "Two Truths And A Lie" and the great fun they had. May you listen to Shania Twain forever.
