Collier, Douglas W. Jr.
passed away on September 5, 2012. A most talented and introspective soul was lost recently with the passing of Douglas W. Collier, Jr. from this earth into the arms of our heavenly Father. Doug was born in Indiana to Jeanne Blakley and Douglas Collier, Sr. At 18, Doug joined the Marine Corps and was stationed in CA. While serving his country, Doug honed his skills as a draftsmen/engineer. He later attended UCLA and began a lifelong career in the foodservice design industry. Doug moved to Phoenix in the early 1970s, opening a foodservice design company through which he designed and coordinated the installation of commercial kitchen projects for hotels, casinos and restaurants throughout the United States. Doug married Catherine Leach and they had two children, Adam and Christine. Doug was a fixture within the AZ GOP in the 1980s, serving in several leadership positions. Doug was an artist, collector and contemplative personality who in his later years enjoyed living in Austin, TX and teaching the sport of fly fishing to grandson Julian. Doug was predeceased by brother Billy Brown. He is survived by his mother Jeanne (Bernard Blakley), father Douglas (Jean), wife Cathy, sons Tre, Adam (Juana), daughter Christine, grandsons Doug Vincent and Julian Collier, sisters Julie Galley and Pam Collier, brother Barry (Carla) Brown and Randy (Julie) Collier and a large, extended family. Doug will be deeply missed and fondly remembered as a creative and dedicated patriot. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, 11:30 a.m. at Camelback Bible Church, 3900 E. Stanford Drive, Paradise Valley, AZ. Contributions in Doug's memory can be made to Redeemer Presbyterian Church Building Fund/Kitchen, 2111 Alexander Ave., Austin, Texas, 78722.

Hello and good bye my old friend Doug. We were friends and worked together back in our early 20s. We even shared an apartment before we both got married. I remember many good times when we were both starting our "futures". I hope you had a fun ride Doug.

So sorry to hear about his death. I only met him once about 30 years ago but heard lots of family stories about him from my mother Shirley (his first cousin). I am so amazed by his photo with his strong resemblance to to my grandfather Charles Collier and my uncle Charles Jr. All these years I never realized that he lived nearby in Phoenix also. Very sorry for your loss.

Hi dear, we had two lovely memorial services to honor your life (one in Austin & another in Phoenix)recently. I know you were present in spirit at both. We all miss you so much & still have trouble with the reality that you are really home with the LORD. But we are grateful that you suffer no longer here on this earth & are experiencing profound joy in worshiping our Almighty Father, Jesus our Savior, and the Holy Spirit in heaven. Peace be to you - We love you always & forever. Cathy, Adam, Christine & Julian

Dear Cathy,Adam and Christine. I am so sorry for your loss. I have missed Doug and you since the days when we talked about and were so involved in politics... the good old days of sharing sail boats and wine. I am not in town and will be unable to attend Doug's service, but I will honor him in my heart and pray for your peace.
