Smith, David Lee
a resident of Chandler, AZ passed away on Sunday 9/22/2013 at age 65 from cardiomyopathy. He died at home in the company of his loving wife and devoted dog Bailey. Dave was born on November 22, 1947 in Concordia, Kansas, to Orlo and Dora Smith. He graduated from Buhler High School in Buhler Kansas in 1965. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1966 and trained as a surgical tech after basic training in San Diego. He had several careers during his lifetime, starting in Phoenix as a paramedic and then become a police officer for the cities of Phoenix and then Peoria. In 1985 he met and married his current wife Sara. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and step brother Don Smith. He is survived by his wife Sara of 28 years; daughter, Tara Powers of Lake Havasu AZ; step sister, Charlotte Heller of Fairbury, NE; sister, Sybil Smith of Lincoln, NE; and sister, Julia An Snyder of El Mirage, AZ; step brother, Dudley Smith of Riverside, CA; and many of his nieces and nephews. Dave was generous and kind hearted and always willing to help friends and neighbors out. His gift of gab was evident and he loved telling his stories. His favorite hobbies were scuba diving in his earlier years and he loved camping in his 5th wheel and traveling to different national parks and all over Arizona and Mexico. He enjoyed going to the movies and working on various garage projects. He attended church and was baptized in March 2012 at Bethany Sun Valley church in Tempe to reconfirm his faith. Dave was a loving husband and will be missed immensely and left many lives touched. A celebration of life memorial service will be at Crossroads Nazarene Church, 2950 W Ray Rd, Chandler, AZ on Saturday, October 5th at 10:00 am In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to at www.hov.org
