Waltrip, Dr. John R.
87 of Peoria, Arizona, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2013. retired President of Glendale Community College passed away Monday, June 10 at 9pm. Dr. Waltrip was born 24th September 1925 on the family farm west of Mattoon, Ill. He attended grade school and high school in Mattoon as well. It was his priveledge to have seen Naval service in both WW2 and the Korean War. It was while completing his college days at the University of Missouri that he met his wife to be, Mary Ann Wilhelm. They chose the Phoenix area to be their home. Dr. Waltrip became a member of the faculty of Glendale College as a professor of History in 1964. He assumed the position of it's President in 1975, retiring in 2002. The last years of his life were spent in traveling the world and as an active member of the Glendale Rotary Club. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Ann, of Peoria, AZ; his brother and sister-in-law William and Traute Waltrip and niece, Kathleen Waltrip of Carpinteria, CA. Interment in the Humbolt, Ill Cemetery. It was Dr. Waltrip's request that no services be held. Local arrangements entrusted to Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, Glendale.
