Edmond William Fey

Edmond Fey Obituary

Fey, Edmond William
passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the age of 99, at Hospice of Arizona in Peoria. Born in 1914 on Whidbey Island, Washington, of German immigrants, his rich and fondly remembered youth was spent between there and Everett. After graduating from Langley High School in 1932, he sailed himself to Seattle to enlist in the US Navy, in which he served until 1954 reaching the rank of Chief Yeoman. His career included duty in ports from China to the Mediterranean. He worked in Naval Intelligence in Germany after WWII, finishing his career at the Navy recruiting office in Seattle. He married Sophie in 1948, and upon retirement from the Navy, settled in Bellevue, Washington to raise his family. His transition to civilian life included many interesting ventures. He co-owned and operated the Cozy Corner and Interbay Taverns in Seattle, briefly tried his hand selling Watkins products, mega-vitamins, cemetery plots, worked as a sewing machine repairman, and spent a year working on a Titan missile installation. He eventually settled in the Life Insurance and Securities industries, in which he continued to be active until his early 80's. In 1992 he built a house in Payson, AZ to live in the land of the Westerns he loved to read. He lived there on his own until moving into the Majestic Rim retirement community in 2010. Medical issues led him to Glendale in 2012, where he spent his final year at Goldwater Assisted Living. He was predeceased by his wife Sophie in 1989, and his daughter-in-law Barbara. He is survived by his son Edmond (Catherine) Fey, Vestal, NY; son Alan Fey, Glendale; grandchildren Karl, Kevin, Lydia Fey; grandchildren Daniel Fey, Cathleen (Anthony) Armstrong, David (Kate) Fey; great-grandchildren Caleb and Josiah Armstrong, Hunter and Draik Fey; sister Dolores Mallory, Somerton; many nieces and nephews. Ed had an optimistic and positive outlook on life and was always interested in learning and adopting new technology. His daily "3 mile" walks kept his body healthy. He grew spiritually, and became a deeply committed Christian at the age of 90. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 5:00 PM at the Covenant of Grace Church, 906 W. Peoria Avenue in Phoenix. Family and friends are invited to call at the church from 4 PM to 5 PM on Saturday. The family would like to thank the staff at Goldwater Assisted Living and Hospice of Arizona for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of Arizona in memory of Edmond W Fey.

The uncle I knew for his gentle ways,
His many interests always amazed;
He'd visit here at the Jersey shore,
Uncle Ed, I couldn't admire you more.
Ed and Alan and their families
Will pass along your wonderful legacy.

Dear Fey Family,
I only knew Ed since February when my dad, John, moved into Goldwater Asst. Living; but I had several good conversations with him (and Daniel) during my daily visits. I thanked him for his service and introduced him to my dad. I was also present for Ed's 99th birthday! :) That was really neat. He seems to have lived a full life!
May he now rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Steve and John Raths
