Eric Guyton Sr.

Guyton, Eric Sr.
57 of Chandler, passed away on June 16, 2013. Eric enlisted in the United State's Coast Guard in 1975. While in the Coast Guard, Eric was a rescue diver, a sharp shooter who held a license to kill and a Hospital Corpsman. He was a member of the crew on the Coast Guard boat Bramble which was also featured in the movie Overboard. He was one of the members of the Coast Guard team that removed actress Natalie Wood from the Ocean off the Coast of California in 1983. Eric traveled to Hawaii, Guam and Alaska teaching first aid and CPR to the troops and wrote the manual on CPR and first aid for use throughout the Coast Guard. He later served as a recruiter in Cerritos, California and ended his career in the Coast Guard as he started it as a hospital corpsman which was what he loved most. While in the Coast Guard Eric and his family lived in Hawaii, New Jersey, Michigan, California and he ended his career in Maryland. Eric's father and sister Barbara Jackson preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Thelma Guyton, wife, Gail Guyton, his two daughters Lauren Woodson and Jenna (James) Graham, his son Eric (Michelle) Guyton, Jr. , four grandchildren: Sierra Guyton, Donovan Guyton, Kira Woodson and Leila Graham; four sisters: Edith Russell, Hattie (Odean)Gooden, Regina (Edwin)Clark, Cathy (Lee)Dowell; one brother: Lawrence Guyton, three bonus children Erica Whaley, Roy Hamilton and Gabriel Hamilton, and a host of nieces, nephews
and cousins. Visitation Friday June 21st 10-11 AM at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church 1401 E. Jefferson St. Phoenix. Homegoing service immediately following 11 AM. Interment private. Preston Funeral Home serving the family.
