Funeral Services for John F. Kahle, M.D. will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Oxford, Nebraska with Reverend Dale Hedstrom officiating. Interment will be held in the Oxford Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Oxford American Legion Post #219 in conjunction with the U.S. Marine Corp Military Honors Team. John Frank Kahle, M.D., 88 years of age, of Flagstaff, Arizona, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 while at his family farm in North Dakota. John was born in 1926 in Oxford on his parents' farm. He was the youngest of three children born to John Frank and Louise L. (Lueking) Kahle. He attended Oxford High School graduating with the class of 1943. He felt honor bound to serve his country, so he joined the United States Marine Corps on February 21, 1944. During World War II, he was a member of the prestigious Marine Corps Band and also served as a stretcher bearer. As a member of the 6th Marine Division, he saw combat during the invasion of Okinawa. After the war, he and his Division served in Tsingtao, China. Following his honorable military discharge on August 7, 1946, he used his G.I. Bill to purchase a custom combine. He would follow the harvest and custom combine from Oklahoma to North Dakota. He met the love of his life, Rosemary, in the middle of a wheat field. They were married in 1950 at the First Lutheran Church in Papillion, Nebraska. He graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Medicine at Omaha. He completed his residencies in Family Practice, Surgery and Anesthesiology. He entered into his medical practice in Flagstaff, Arizona in 1956. He had three daughters: Cynthia, Tamela and Jana. He developed a love for nature photography. He won numerous international and national awards for his photography. He was honored by receiving a fellowship in the Photographic Society of America and received the coveted Diamond Award. John was also a private pilot and earned all of the flight certifications given by the F.AA. He served the aviation community in Northern Arizona as the Federal Aviation Administration Medical Examiner and was on the Flagstaff Airport Board. John loved practicing medicine and was honored to help his patients in Flagstaff, Arizona. His medical practice spanned more than 50 years. He served as the President of the Arizona Medical Association, was a delegate from Arizona to the American Medical Association, a diplomat to the American Board of Family Practice and the Academy of Family Physicians. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and Elks Lodge. John was always a Nebraska farm boy at heart. He continued to operate the family farms until last year. His biggest loves in life where his wife, three daughters and granddaughter. Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by one brother, Louis Kahle. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Kahle; daughters: Cynthia Kahle, Tamela Kahle Hatcher and her husband, Scott, Jana Kahle Potenza and her husband, Austin; one granddaughter, Krista Kahle Potenza; one sister, Rachel Kay Moore; nephew, James Moore; nieces Kathy Baron, Susan Skelton; and many dear friends. His warm spirit, kind heart and love for his family will be missed deeply. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford.
