Wilbur Soren "Wil" Andersen

Andersen, Wilbur Soren "Wil"
passed away Tuesday, October 15th following a prolonged illness. His memory lives on in the hearts of his survivors; Ruth, his beloved wife of 55 years, and his daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Mitch Klein. Wil was born in Bedford, Indiana on July 2nd, 1931 and he attended Bedford High School where he was an enthusiastic member of the basketball team. He went on to attend and graduated with a degree in business management from Indiana University, after which he served in the Air Force as a courier in England. Following his military service, Wil worked at The Irwin Union Bank in Columbus, Indiana, where he met his future wife, Ruth who he married on May 18th, 1958. Their daughter Tara was born in 1960, and in 1962 the family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona where Wil became a trust officer with The Arizona Bank. Wil worked for the Arizona bank for 30 years, retiring as CFO and head of their trust department in 1992. He often commented on how fortunate he was to have found a career he so thoroughly enjoyed and for which he possessed a special gift. Over the years, Wil served on the board of a number of charitable foundations and was a long time member of Rotary 100. As much as he loved his work, his first love was his family and we will always remember his humor and wit, along with his genuine kindness and outgoing nature. To know Wil was to like him and he was blessed with many wonderful, caring friends. When not working or spending time with family and friends, one could generally find Wil on the golf course and over the years, he and Ruth were members of The Phoenix and Paradise Valley Country Clubs. Always an avid fan of college basketball, perhaps his favorite time of year was March and the "Madness" that accompanied the annual championships. A life-long, optimistic, Chicago Cubs fan, Wil fondly remembered attending games as a young boy. We all will miss Wil, but we feel blessed to have so many fond memories with which to continue celebrating his life. There will be a brief interment ceremony at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 23rd at The National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, located at 23029 North Cave Creek Road. In lieu of flowers, Wil would prefer friends celebrate his memory through donations to The Stead Family Memory Clinic.
