James Donald "Jim" Garrett Sr.

James "Jim" Donald Garrett, Sr., 81, of Coolidge passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2004 in Casa Grande, Arizona. A visitation will be held from 5PM-7PM, Monday, March 1, 2004 at Simes Mortuaries Coolidge Chapel located at 410 W. Roosevelt Ave. Coolidge, AZ. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at the Community Presbyterian Church located at 179 N. 3rd St. Coolidge, AZ. And will be officiated by Pastor Randy Campbell. Jim was born to Jack and Evelyn Garrett, Wednesday, October 25, 1922 in Florence, AZ. As a high school student at Florence High, he excelled in sports earning him a scholarship to Arizona State University. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp., December 8, 1941 and served as a fighter pilot, flying F44 Corsairs in the South Pacific. After the war, he returned to ASU to complete a business degree. Upon graduation he returned to Coolidge and worked with his father at the Oldsmobile Case Implement Company which later became Garrett Motors. Jim Sr. and Jim Jr. have continued to run the dealership. Jim was a Mason and a Jester. He was a member of the ASU Alumni Association, the ASU Letter-man's Club, the American Legion, the V.F.W., the Arizona Auto Dealers Association and was currently serving on the board of directors for Sunstate Bank in Coolidge. Preceding him in death was his wife of 52 years, Marian McKale Garrett. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Garrett Family Trust, Acct# 0491801012 at 635 N. Arizona Blvd. Coolidge, AZ 85228 or the Garrett Family Trust, Acct# 0491801012 at 1300 E. Florence Blvd. in Casa Grande, AZ 85222. The funds are to benefit the Coolidge High School ROTC Program. Left behind to cherish his memories are his son, Jim D. Garrett, Jr. of Coolidge; daughters, Nancy Garrett, Terri Garrett and Lynn Barrows all of Coolidge and five grandchildren, Michael Barrows, Matthew Cockrill, Charlie Garrett, JD Garrett and Christine Palacios all of Coolidge.
