Doris Williams Obituary

Doris A. Williams

Phoenix - Doris Ann Williams, 95, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away peacefully with her family at her side on February 12, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur E. Williams, who passed away in 2008. Doris was born in San Francisco on December 9, 1922. She lived her childhood in Sacramento where she met Art, when she was 15 and he was 17 years old. They were married in 1942 and were happily married for 67 years. They moved to Phoenix in 1961 when Art was transferred by the JC Penney Co. as manager at the Chris-Town Shopping Center. Doris and Art were avid golfers and members of Moon Valley Country Club for over 50 years. Doris was an active member in the Arizona Women's Golf Association and served as the Arizona State Handicap Chairman. She was also active in the Assistance League of Phoenix. Doris loved spending her summers at the beach, but most of all, she loved being with her family which was her whole world. She is survived by her three children, Gary Williams, Carol Friedl (Bill) & Scott Williams (Nadine); five grandchildren, Jim Williams (Janet), Tom Williams (Lisa), Amy Friedl, Brian Friedl & Sarah Williams; and four great-grandchildren, Daniel, Ryan, Zachary & Sam. The family would like to thank her caregiver at Sun Valley Assisted Living, Rodica Nicula, our "Angel on Earth" for her dedication, kindness, love and wonderful care. A private service will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice. She will always be remembered for her infectious smile, warm personality and genuine love for others. We love you Mother ~~ You will forever be in our hearts!

The children of Alice Sample Send their love and sympathy to entire Williams family.

I just learned of Mrs. William's passing so please forgive the late post. I only spoke to her a couple of times after Mr. Williams died but she brought back so many favorable memories of her and my mom and all the ladies of the Moon Valley country club.

Exactly the last time I spoke to her I was with Mary Harper and we were going to plan a trip out to the club Sadly that trip never occurred.

I recall the trip to San Diego to the beach house in the summer of 1976, we watched the grunion run and listen to Desi Arnez sing on the beach.

... the last time we spoke and she said, Kelly, now stop calling me Mrs. Williams you can call me Doris!

Well Doris may all the ladies Welcome you to the 19th hole to play cards and enjoy cocktails! I'm sure my mom Alice was right there to welcome you!

It is with the deepest sympathy that we send our prayers and love to all of Doris' wonderful family. She was a wonderful woman and we got to spend many great hours together on and off the golf course at Moon Valley. Many great memories of fun. She will be missed, but she will be smiling down on all her family!

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
